“Not a 4 star hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2010

I found this hotel on Priceline. It sounded pretty good; convenient location, 4 stars, indoor swimming pool and a price reduction from €150 down to €50 per night. In fact it is a faded, aging, rather pokey hotel which hovers somewhere between 2 and 3 stars. The reception area is small and inefficient, it feels grubby but this is probably due to the poor state of the decor; the pool is very small and not worth bothering with. The room was ok but possible to hear the neighbours; it is on a very busy road; there are no restaurants within walking distance.
It is worth €50 per night but I would be extremely annoyed to pay €150 and the experience was a disappointment.

“average, ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2010

location is not in city centre, in nearby area no nice restaurants but you can easily walk to calle siscar where there are many nice restaruarants like "el albero"and "cerveceria sidreria gloria". At calle del conde de alte is a nice bar "la santa. Rooms were ok. There is no room with a balcony. View of this room was at a courtyard. Nothing special but a good option if you dont't have to stay in city centre.

“Good hotel but not 4 stars”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2010

Have been in this hotel during last summer, it was really nice, clean, and cheap as well, the facilties was nice as well, the swimming pool was in closed area ( which wasnt good that much but OK ) , the guest was really nice, helpful and very friendly. For the location it was really nice, closed to the city center of a wonderfull city.
the room style was so nice, consisted of 2 little floors, and a very big bathroom :)
Yes, i will do it again and stay in this hotel , if i had the chance to visit this city again

“Not too bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2010

This hotel isn't half too bad. It has 4 stars, but don't let that mislead you. I personally would rate it 3* tops.
The floor of our room seemed to be recently renovated, which was a good thing. The bathroom had a baththub and shower in one. Toilet was clean, but the whole didn't seem all too well maintained. Towels smelled very chemical and I'm not too convinced about the bed linnen either.
Breakfast was available at €7.50 per person, but wasn't very spectacular. Still, for that price, who can complain.
In a nutshell: Kris Consul Del Mar has the looks of a 4 star hotel, polite and correct staff as you'd expect from a 4 star hotel... but looks can be deceiving.

“very average hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2008

This hotel is located about half way between the old town of Valencia and the Port area and is also very close to the Ciudad de las Artes y de las Ciencias. There's a bus stop directly across the road from the hotel, and metro stop about a 10 minute walk away.

This is where the good points end. The night we arrived, we were greeted by an unfriendly guy at the reception desk. When we saw that we were being given a room with 2 single beds pushed together and not the double room we had booked, he refused to change our room and said there was no availablility in the hotel.

The room itself looked like it could do with a good renovation. Bathroom tiles were cracked, the furniture looked cheap and was scraped and slightly battered looking, paint was peeling from the walls, the tv reception was hopeless, the remote control didn't work etc. However, the beds were relatively comfortable and there was plenty of hot water in the shower despite what some other reviews said.

Breakfast was nothing special. Some cereals, cakes, bread (which always seemed to be gone no matter how early we got up for breakfast). The fruit salad was tinned fruit in syrup, and there was never any hot water for tea.

Half way through our stay, the infamous smell of sewage that I just read about on other reviews appeared. It was absolutely disgusting. When we complained to reception, they simply gave us a bottle of air freshener! After a few hours, we couldn't take it any more and insisted that they move us. Despite initally telling us that the hotel was full, we were eventually moved to a proper double room with a balcony on the second floor.

The hotel does have a nice sitting room area with a tv, and a computer with constant broadband access which was a plus point.

Overall, this hotel is ok if you want a cheap weekend and aren't too fussy about the standard of your accommodation. But if it's a romantic break you're after, forget it!

  • Liked — Location was relatively good
  • Disliked — Unfriendly staff, poor standard of rooms, bad breakfast
