Stayed here 8 days this month. I know that's a long time for a 'limited services' hotel (their own description) but we chose it for its nearness to the Palau de les Arts opera house. Actually, it's not that near, a good 20 minutes door to door.
Pluses: a good-sized room, a firm bed, crisp sheets changed daily, arctic and speedy air-condtioning, very clean, good chambermaiding.
Negatives: no kettle in rooms (many Ex by HI have them); not allowed to open the windows under penalty of insects. I didn't but have suffered many bites anyway.
utterly unvariable breakfast, whose choice became a little dull by day #8, actually by day #3; no covers over the food, so flies walked across it, also children's hands (one day there was a school trip in who decimated the supplies, took 2 packets of cereal each out of the breakfast room and were very noisy); only apples, no other fresh fruit; no hot food, same 3 meats every day and inedible plastic cheese in single portion, sealed packets; dry bread - but maybe Spain is not famed for bread, this was my first trip, I don't know.
the staff didn't know a lot: the nice receptionist didn't realize they sold Valencia cards (they do): the sullen one suggested we go into the shopping mall to ask how to get to El Puig (where? customer services?) and would not give change for the vending machines; the hotel advertized a restaurant open from 1200 - 0000 but we never saw it open, except for breakfast; it advertized the vending machines proudly as an alternative but then refused to give us change for it; no machine issued coffee.
not nearly enough information for tourists: after all, this hotel is right up the tourist end of Valencia, near the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias ~ no transport maps, no suggestions of places to visit, no advice as to where to eat on arrival on a Sunday, when the alleged restaurant was closed and the machines don't take notes. Incidentally, even the Valencia card, whose prime attraction is ease of use on public transport, didn't come with a transport map. odd.
the walls were very hear-through: the first night a gentleman next door had a loud and happy ending; later in the week it was a loud lady: I nearly summoned assitance for a poor woman clearly in extremis, until she began shouting Si! Si! Si! (I'll have what she's having).
Valencia is a pleasant city and the nearby El Saler mall a great asset but I will not return to the hotel.
