I have just returned from a week of golf and relaxation at the Villaitana. I had been concerned about some of the adverse comments on this sight and I understand that it is possible that one persons experience can be different from others, however here is mine.
Check in was very quick with no problems, the hotel is designed like a village, in fact it is a cross between two local towns, Altea and La Nucia. You can end up with a bit of a walk to your rooms, however it’s not too far unless you have mobility problems and if so you should mention these when booking.
The rooms are fantastic, plenty of room and very clean. The bed is one of the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever slept in. There is a fridge in the room to store cold drinks.
Restaurants; we had only booked in for Bed & Breakfast and found the Breakfast buffet very tempting with a wide choice. We did use the La Trattoria Restaurant and found that the food was expensive for what it was, which was not the best.
The bars: there was only one bar open most of the time we where there, the pool bar was only open on the weekend when the resort became busy. In fact most of the time the resort appeared to be empty, however we believe that this was due to a German TV company was taking over the resort for a week for some filming.
In General: The resort was very quiet and some of the facilities where not open as it would be crazy to have staff just standing around when there were no customers. Public areas were clean and the staff that were there were very polite and helpful. As we knew the area well we were keen to have our evening entertainments in local towns like Altea and Albir, which were a short taxi ride away. The younger members of our group hit Benidorm for their entertainment, until it hit them back.
The Golf was fantastic; there was plenty of room on the courses and no queues on the Tee’s. The Poniente Course was very challenging and you can end up losing quite a few balls if you do not go for safe shots (take plenty of balls with you as they are expensive in the club house shop). The Levante course is much more forgiving yet still challenging. The club house meals are good for snacks and are reasonably priced. As this is the end of the busy season for golf on these courses we had plenty of room and a chance to move Tee times so that we could play when the heat was not so intense. Take plenty of water with you on the course.
I will certainly go back again and I expect that as the resort get busy I may find a difference, however the facilities will still be great and the golf fantastic.
Room Tip: If you have mobility issues, you must let the hotel know when you book.
