“clean, cheap and very basic”

my boyfriend and i stayed at these apartments over the christmas period. We had read the reviews so we were prepared for what we would see. The rooms are clean, but they are very old and basic and in some parts in need of repair. The shower wouldn't stay on the wall so we had to hold it and the bath was miniscule. It was very cramped as my fella kept saying it was the only place he'd stayed where he could go to the toilet and be sick in the sink at the same time lol. the beds are 2 singles so we pushed them together only thing was they were on wheels so they kept coming apart. obviously we didn't use the pool because of the time of year but it was small although clean and they had a bar, cafe off it. It is ideal if your the time of person who only wants to use the apartments for sleeping and bathing. I would say that they are more a studio as opposed to self catering as the only thing to cook on was 2 electric hobs and hardly any pans and crockery. They were very cheap. The best thing about these apart ments was that 30 metres from the apartment there was a brilliant english bar called the jukebox that did fantastic home cooked meals at really cheap prices and did a fabulous 3 course xmas day menu for 12.95 euros, they are very welcoming, and show live sports.

“Go with an open mind and you will be fine!”

Hi the hubby and I stayed in these apartments from 21st to 28th September 2011, we had read a lot of mixed reviews before hand and went with an open mind. I would recommend these apartments to groups, singles and couples who are after a cheap and simple accommodation base.

As we had read reviews we knew what to expect in terms of checking-in, deposits etc.. this is my review of the Don Gregorio:

Check-in is open in-between the hours of 9am to 1pm and 4pm to 8pm, we expected to arrive just before 1pm but we arrived late and there was no-one at reception. There is a map showing where to go if you arrived out side of the check-in opening hours (near the levante club hotel), to collect your keys, but we didn't want to leave our cases unattended so i sent the hubby to the supermarket at the top of the street for some drinks and snacks as the pool bar was shut. So we just hanged around until reception re-opened at just before 4pm.

There is a notice board that explains about the deposit which is €120 or £120 per apartment. Toilet rolls are not replaced, you must buy your own when you run out and the maid only comes and replaces your towels/changes bed linen if you stay longer than a week. If your key is lost it costs €50 to change the lock. You get 2 keys, one for your room and one that works on the front gate and entrance to the building. We found the gate/entrance to be locked most evenings but not during the day.

Even though the notice says that it is 120 €/£ deposit we only paid £80, i presume this was because we are a couple and less likely to trash the rooms than say, a big group of girls or boys. We also paid for a security box, i cant remember how much it was but i know it was cheap and we got €10 back at the end of our stay. The man at reception was friendly when checking us in.

2 lifts take you to the floor you are staying on, with 2 sea view apartments on each floor, we were on the 10th floor and the lifts never broke down once. The landing lights didn't work but if you kept the lift door open you can easily see your room door and unlock it with your key. The locks on the door double locked and there is a notice on the door advising you to do this.

The apartments are quite big for a couple but i think they would be a bit small for 4 people. Straight after the door there is a little utility room which contains a little sink, a water storage tank and a sweeping brush. Next to the utility is the small kitchenette which had 2 electric cooking rings, a kitchen sink and a large fridge freezer (the type a lot of us have at home), the kettle is an old metal whistle type and there is no toaster. We had plenty of cutlery, plates, glasses, pans, tea-towels etc... directly across from the kitchenette is the bathroom which had a toilet, bidet, tiny bath with overhead shower and a sink. On top of the sink is a large mirror and glass shelf. Next door to the bathroom is the one and only bedroom which contained 2 single beds, a bedside cabinet and a large built-in wardrobe with a chest of drawers. We pushed the beds together to make a double.

The living room was directly out of the bedroom and next to the kitchenette which had 2 sofa beds, a dining room table and 4 chairs, a pay tv which takes any € change and costs €1 per hour -a little tip- turn off the set top box for the English channels (sky news, discovery channel, dave and itv)! Out to the side of the living room was an enclosed balcony which we used to dry towels and clothes, this also contained the apartment safe box. The main balcony is to the front of the living room and had a plastic patio set.
There is no air conditioning but if the windows and front balcony door is left open you get a lovely breeze which runs through the whole apartment.

The poolside bar is open from 10am to 7pm which is also when the pool is open, the pool gets sun most of the time and we found it adequate for us to sit around, the hubby had a swim in it and he seemed happy with the depth and size.

The apartments are in quite a good location, up the road from Calle Londres and the Levante Club apartments and the indoor market. There is a small hill to walk up so if any one has trouble with walking or are very unfit i could see a few issues.

In all we found the apartments ok for us even though they are in need of an update, some of the doors had holes in them and the furniture has seen a lot better days. To be honest these apartments could be someone's idea of staying in hell ( just read all the reviews!) but if you go with an open mind and don't expect 4 star when paying a lot less you will be fine! :D

“Get what you pay for!”

No good for snobs or families, but then again Benidorm isn't the place for snobs or families! Perfect apartments for us. 4 girls that just wanted a bed, a shower and somewhere to hang our clothes!
Had to pay a £100 deposit but thats the same for any same sex group in any hotel in Benidorm so we expected it and we got it back at the end of our stay without them even checking our room.
The Porter was only there certain hours but it was clearly stated when he was there and if you had any problems the bar staff we always friendly and willing to help! The pool was small but we weren't there to swim and spent a lot of ime on the beach anyway. The rooms were basic, and clearly haven't been renovated in a long time but they do exactly what they claim to... They're clean, they've got a working shower and comfy beds.
For what we paid I wasn't disappointed. I'd stay there again!

Room Tip: From what we saw they were all pretty much the same.

really disappointed with the rooms, not dirty but very old and drab furniture and poorly maintained. we were told it was about 100 yards to pick up the keys(as we arrived at 01.00 and there is no one to meet you) itwas more like a quarter of a mile! fortunately staff at a local bar offered to drive us to the place to pick the keys up(thanks jukebox). we got one change of sheets and the cleaner visited once during our 10 day stay. it should not be called self catering if there is nothing to cater with! 2 small electric rings,no microwave, no toaster so we ate out every day. the tv was pathetic little portable and they charged 1 euro per hour to watch it rather than renting out a remote control as most apartments do. we saw the manager about three times during ou stay, most of the time there was anote onthe reception desk saying "back later". we would never ever return to these apartments!.

“Don't go”

My friend and I went for a girly week without our husbands for the very first time. First impression wasn't bad............but..............what a week from hell! I've always been the first to say that you only sleep in a room so it doesn't really matter what a place is like it's what you make of it well my opinion has changed! The room was very basic, which we expected, there was no air con so had to sleep with windows and patio doors wide open which led to many sleepless nights because of all the noise coming from other rooms, groups of lads and lasses and couples(who should have known better) some spanish but mainly inconsiderate English! and I'm not talking about half hour stints, the noise came at any time night or day!! The kettle was the old whistle blowing tin kind which took forever to boil on a two ring electic hob and if you are staying for one week only don't expect clean towels you have to use the same ones all week, not very hygenic, take your own. We were bitten after our "naps" by something living in the mattresses which on closer inspection were only camp beds!! there wasn't enough sunbeds not that you could use them as the place is dwarfed by much bigger hotels etc and the pool side only got sun for a few hours. The only thing the Don Gregorio had in it's favour was Daniella, the girl in the cafe/bar who was always pleasant and speaks good english. We would go back to Benidorm tomorrow as the resort is fantastic something for everyone (mind the thieves and pick pockets!) BUT we would never ever ever stay in those apartments again.
DON'T GO !!!!!

Room Tip: There isn't one!
