“Really enjoyed and would return.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

i went to Calas Marina with my 2 children (aged 8 and 19) and we all thoroughly enjoyed. I had previously read reviews of people complaining its very "spanish" with "spanish food" - well it is SPAIN. We enjoyed the breakfast (we were only B&B), there was a choice of cold meats, cheeses, toast, cereals, hot food such as sausage, bacon, eggs, then there were cakes, yogurt etc. it took me a while to figure which coffee i liked from the machine as there is a huge selection of drinks. i found this very amusing.
our room was on the 6th floor and was very clean. it had 4 beds, plenty of storage space, tv, bathroom/shower/toilet/sink etc. and balcony. the cleaner came every day to do the beds and change towels etc. very impressed.
the pool area was also clean and not too busy. it has sun loungers, tables, chairs, umbrellas and there is some kids games ongoing throughout the day such as water football, basketball etc. where you then get a certificate in the evening.
the reception staff were all polite and very helpful and provided us with a local map and bus information, and helped with directions to the local market and Mundomar.
The bar staff were brilliant, the gent (who is married to a brit) was funny, and always chatted. they give nuts, crisps and little snacks with your drinks day and night. there is childrens entertainment in the evening (like a kids disco) but nothing really for adults, only bingo one night. But it was ideal for the kids. they loved it. (if you want disco, nightclubbing etc. go to new benidorm).
the hotel itself is really nice - no issues at all.
the local bus service is very regular and so cheap. i went by bus to lavente and cost 1 euro each. walk back is amazing across the beach front. there is a market on wed & friday well worth a visit, and we got a taxi to Mundomar, where there was an amazing dolphin show (i nearly cried) and the taxi was 10 euro each way - very cheap.
there are many, many local cafes, restaurants to eat, drink of an evening or daytime, the beach is 10 mins walk away, and i could see it from my balcony.
Ideal for a quieter holiday, for the family etc. not the raving noisy nightlife that you can get up the road in lavente (new benidorm), if you want that - dont stay in this area, as it is very pleasent, residential type setting. but lovely all the same. i would return. :)

“Basic and very Spanish”

I think the other reviewers have been too hard on Calas Marina. The hotel is clean and well run. The food was good and plentiful however, don't expect burgers or chips.... the food is Spanish and at times a little strange.
The staff were friendly as were the other guests, receptionists were a little 'lordy' but then they are everywhere! I liked the Calas and would stay there again. It's a budget holiday destination and as long as you're not expecting a trouser press and mini bar you'll enjoy it.

“Hotel From Hell!!”

This Hotel Is terrible, Staff do not want to know you because you are English, very unfriendly! The Location is not where it says it is accordingly to their Website, and the facilites that they advertise on their Website are for their sister Hotel ,which is the Hotel Marnia and not the Calas Marnia Hotel!.
The food was always Cold at breakfast and Dinner. The pool area was always dirty, never cleanned, and the rooms didn't seem like they had been cleaned properley at all!
Me and my partner stayed here for 1 week and that was 1 week too long!
This Hotel, Calas Marnia is not worth the 3stars it holds!

i have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Calas Marina and i couldn't wait to check out.The food available from the restaurant was freezing cold and lacked any variety,on our first lunch the food was disgusting, hardly anything looked appetising and the staff were the rudest i have ever met.I could not stay in the hotel it was like a concentration camp, even the beds were fold up style. If you are planning on booking this hotel then please don't its worth paying the extra and getting quality,i would never reccommend this hotel to anyone. One evening our meal consisted of fried eggs, fishfingers and brussels sprouts, not a good selection all greasy and cold

“3*** aiming to be a 1*”

Breakfast= 3 slices of fat. 3 hotdog sausages & a boiled egg (All Cold)'
Dinner better, but not much. Opens at 8PM get in fast, eat what you can and leave.
This is a total non smoking hotel which I was not informed about when I booked it.
Unfriendly staff. You need to speak pretty good spanish too.
Safe costs 33 euros (you get 10 back) for 10 days
We felt like we were staying at an 18/30s slum hotel, with people shouting and singing and moving furniture at all hours of the night. then morning came and we saw chairs and other bits thrown into the tiny pool.
The whole place was so bad, we checked out 5 days early and flew home.
We have stayed in many 3*** hotels in spain in the past and they were all of a far higher quality than this dump. Yes it was cheap but so were the others we have stayed in
If you are thinking of staying here, DONT! If you do you WILL regret it!
