“Excellent value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2011

We read a few reviews before we booked Bermudas. We had a lovely xmas weeks holiday in this hotel, Good location, about 10 mins to beach with a lovely walk along the promenade, Loads of cheap little bars with lots of shops with interesting cheap watches, and loads more! The Bermudas hotel is welcoming, excellent value for money, we could not fault the breakfast, Every morning fresh fried eggs, bacon, cereal and various cakes and bread to choose from. The evening meals were different always the choice of a starter of soup or salad and the main evening meal chicken chips or some other meat and potatoe dish. They offer wine or water and every night we had a bottle of wine with our meal. Its a two star hotel so if you want luxury expect to pay luxury price. This hotel is excellent. if you are lucky enought go at the end of the year like we did for new year. The hotel has an absolutuely fantastci frirework display. Thank you Bermudas.

“Worst food in any hotel ever. Apartment not too bad”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

I don't very often give bad reviews because I don't expect too much but this was not a pleasant experience. I booked a week half board and because I was alone it was not particularly cheap. The apartment itself was quite pleasant although very tatty. It was the food and the attitudes of some of the staff that were awful.
Breakfast was better than dinner. The only cooked food was fried eggs (badly cooked and just piled on top of each other) and bacon some days and raw looking sausages other days- never any tomatos, mushrooms, beans or anything. There were also bread rolls, cheese slices, spam type stuff, cakes and cereals(which those who tried didn't seem to like) There was no fruit either tinned fresh or dried or yoghurt or anything healthy really. The juices were squash (not unusual) and the coffee from the machine was very variable - sometimes like thick mud and sometimes dishwater. It wasn't great but it was adequate and you could fill up ok.

Dinner was a shock. I had assumed it would be a buffet because almost every where is and I usually think it is ok even where everyone else is moaning because I am happy with a big salad. Here there are just two choices for each course and no variations or requests are considered. Vegetarians are quite simply not catered for. I don't eat meat and normally would only have fish occasionally but the main course was just a choice between meat and fish. The first course was a choice between soup and meat but sometimes the soup was meat so couldn't have anything and even the vegetable soups weren't necessarily vegetarian. The staff, especially the woman, were incredibly hostile and surly and unhelpful. For the main course the fish was sometimes nice and those who had the meat said it was ok but whatever you had came with either just chips and no other vegetables or salad or frozen mixed vegetables which were very overcooked and horrible instead of the chips (not a choice - one one day one another) For pudding you could have an apple, a pear a banana or one scoop of ice cream. I always had rfuit because it was the only healthy thing you ever got but it was kept in a too-cold fridge and nearly frozen banana is not very nice. You got wine or water wuth your meal and they were very generous with the wine. One person got a whole bottle but they obviously recycled the leftovers. Some days it tasted ok but a couple of days I got some that was really vinegary
Very few peple had meals there. I think most were self-catering but some had paid for food but gave up on it. I have never had such an unhealthy diet, especially in Spain where most people eat lots of salad with dinner. I don't think any salad or fresh vegetables ever enter that kitchen.
As for the apartment, I don't thing that it matters being tatty as long as it is reasonably clean. I think it would be fine for self- catering although I never tried the cooker so don't know if it worked. I don't think there was a toaster but there was a kettle. The fridge had no temperature control and froze everything so I had to keep taking things out for quite a while before using them. There was an insect problem and there was a gigantic tin of cockroach spray under the sink. The place always smelled strongly of insecticide after the cleaners had been. You mostly only saw a lot when you suddenly put a light on in the kitchen and then you would see lots of what I assume were coackroaches (from the picture on the tin) but they would mostly quickly go into hiding. I didn't have any food out of the fridge apart from in sealed wrapping but I think you would have a real problem if there was anything for them to eat.
Another problem that I had with the apartment was that when I had a bath and let the water out the whole lot came up through the floor, bringing muck out of the drain with it and flooded the whole apartment. I told the girl on reception and it was cleared up when I came back. There never seemed to be a light on the landing and you could only find your room by lights from nearby buildings.
In October there is no sun on the pool area till about 2pm and the only on a few sunbeds at a time and no sun on any balconies till the last couple of hours of the day but it is probably ok in midsummer.
I found a lot of the staff very unfriendly. The barman who was there most of the time seemed friendly but I didn't usually go in there because there was always football on very loud. The bloke Geordie who was often on reception and who people said is actually the owner wasn't at all friendly to me but sits and chats to people he regards as his mates (apparently he speaks English fluently but the only word he spoke to me on arrival was 'passport') and when one day I went to tell him there was a lot of water on the floor of the sixth floor landing (wee by the smell of it he simply didn't answer). The woman in the dining room was really awful and was actually standing having a cigarette and a cup of coffee while seeming to expect guests to clear their own breakfast tables. She was also always entertaining friends and family in there during dinner service. She never greeted English guests or smiled. There was quite a pleasant girl on reception just in the last couple of days. The cleaners did quite a good job but I never saw rhem to know if they were friendly.

“great position”

first time ive stayed at the bermudas and was worried by the negative feedback, but i was pleasantly surprised, the rooms were very outdated and the furniture had seen better days, but it was clean, the beds were comfortable, clean towels everyday if you needed them, the balcony was nice to relax on in the afternoon,we stayed half board and i enjoyed the breakfast,it was buffet and the bacon was a bit fatty but very tasty, there was always plenty to eat,the evening meal was a set meal, there was a choice of 2 dishes for starter 2 dishes for main and a choice of desert,im a fussy eater but i never left feeling hungry and you get free water or wine with your meal,if you pay 2 star prices then people shouldnt expect 4 star food,to be honest it reminded us of fawlty towers but we had a great week at the bermudas, the swimming pool is very large and lovely to lie around, its more hectic at weekends when the stag and hens arrived, they were no trouble though, the bar in the hotel was very reasonable,a bottle of mahou only 1.20 euros, good for a hotel,i would go back again if the price was right.just one tip though, check the bedded area for knats, they lay in wait to eat you alive, sqash them in the day and its much better.
