Booked these apartments after many years of staying in hotels in Benidorm we decided we wanted to not be tied down to eating in one place and being restricted by hotel meal times. I booked through John Paterson, he was great. His brother in law Gerry picked us up at the airport and drove us to the resort, he entertained us all the way with stories of his life and jokes, the best holiday transfer ever!!! We arrived at the apartment block and John was waiting for us, took us up to the room, well, I couldn't believe how nice it was, we had a 3 bedroom apartment on the 30th floor. My Dad was over the moon, could see for miles. The balcony was enormous, nice living room, small but functional kitchen with utility area which was very handy, the bedrooms were a decent size one had a large en-suite and the bed was really comfy, almost as good as my own bed!! The other big room led out onto the balcony and there was a little twin room at the back and a large family bathroom across the hall.
The pool area was great, not crowded and the swimming pool was fab but a bit bracing to get into but once in it was lovely. The sun beds are a bit of an issue as you have to queue up before 9.30 to get one, I fully understand why this is and there is the trade off between a nice spacious pool area and the crazy sun bed run in the morning, they cost 2 euros each a day, again this is fine as they are 4 euros on the beach, if I was going for 10 days again I think I would just buy a sun bed in one of the local shops. Now the only negative I could really say would be the pool attendants who are at times a little harsh, a little Gestapo like, one girl who was badly burned had a t-shirt on and she was given a very loud whistle, once her mum explained they were fine but they really like the rules!! There also seemed to be one rule for us Brits and another rule for the Spanish who were allowed to drink and sing loudly and were given spare sun beds free when others were finished with them, however I was entertained by the antics and goings on on a daily basis.
Round about the apartments there are plenty places to eat, The Union Jack was great for breakfast and at night a coffee, a coke and a pint was only €3.50, there were 2 chinese restaurants we went to one was a buffet, the other was the China Garden, yummy. Across the road there was a British bakers, similar to Greggs, they sold sausage rolls, cream cakes and sandwiches even made up packed lunches for the plane, fab!! Further down there was a pub called the Grand National, really nice food and finally our favourite food place is called Marianos, just next door to the indoor Market and Sol Pelicanos, it sold spit roast chickens and pizza, had takeaway twice and enjoyed on the balcony watching the world go by and the fab view which was awesome at night.
Must visit places include the beach, the old town but visit at night and during the day, Guadalest is lovely, the Market is on a Wednesday and a Sunday and Altea is also worth a wander round, the bus to all these places is right outside the gates, great.
All in all an awesome holiday and I would not hesitate to book these apartments again, and if anyone is unsure whether to step away from a hotel I would whole heartedly recommend them, but defo book with John on the Gemelos 22 website
