“How did it earn its fourth star?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2009

We had spent Christmas at Les Dunes two years previously when it had only three stars; we liked the junior suites, the Gala Christmas Eve Dinner was excellent, breakfast was fairly good, and of course its position is unbeatable. This year we had to pay extra for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, for either a buffet at 20 euros each on each day, with an extra 20 euros each per day to have it served in the Terrace restaurant. We opted to pay, 160 euros in total on top of half board price. We were surprised, to say the least, to be informed that we had not paid enough for two gala meals in the restaurant. After 'discussion' we were told that as we had protested, the manager was now 'inviting us' for dinner on Christmas Eve! The meal was excellent; minor comments - no menus on the tables at all, and when we requested one there were none in English. On Christmas Day we duly went into the buffet restaurant at the back of the hotel to find an average choice (lots of prawns but nothing else of note), not even a sprig of holly on the tables, and not even a glass of wine included - a Merry Christmas indeed! The German female receptionist was rather abrupt, and only a couple of staff spoke any English - not a problem for us but maybe for other English guests. Next year it will be a different hotel with no extras - once bitten! Oh yes, and we have no idea where the extra star came from, the suite has the same fittings and facilities as two years ago!

“Almost excellent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2009

There's an old saying which goes that you get what you pay for! Les Dunes in not by a long way the cheapest hotel in town but it offers a good deal which makes the price easier to swallow.

The rooms are very good, clean and well appointed. The views here as has been said before were breathtaking. The sofa bed (3rd bed) is very good and practical but might be uncomfortable for someone who might be described as a 'big' person.

Any one thinking that they can self-cater would be disappointed unless you were an expert with the micro-wave. Frankly, given the limited facilities on hand you might be able to conjure up a jacket potato but that's about the limit (apart from tea and coffee)!. However, the hotel does not claim to offer a full service in this department and the resort, of course, is equal to any catering demands made on it.

We had the B & B option so I can only report on our Breakfast experience which was generally good with a wide choice of breakfast fare. Like all such things it took a few mornings to work everything out but that's quite normal. We had on one occasion an opportunity to try the lounge/cafe attached to the hotel which was both pricey and poor by comparison to other 'sea-front' cafes but our snack although less than satisfactory was too limited to pass any real judgment on their catering as a whole.

The swimming pool and attendant facilities were very good and clean, the water was just the right temperature. There is a need though to hop around the pool to catch the sun since it's path has to circumnavigate the high rise buildings around but that is, I think, only an issue in the off season until the sun reaches its zenith and is high enough to pass over.

The staff were helpful and friendly and quickly responded to any enquiries or complaints. It is, it seems, a hotel largely occupied by elderly Dutch as well as few Spanish couples which to some might be a blessing but language was never a problem. We needed to have our room until quite late since we had an evening flight which was organised for a few extra euros without any fuss or bother.

We flew Monarch to Alicante which I would definitely recommend and the pre-booked taxi service was also prompt and very efficient as it took us right to the hotel door.

All in all the best hotel I've stayed at whilst in Benidorm and the view from the rooms alone are worth it.

“Stunning views!”

Picked this one after a walk along the sea front in June.We booked over the phone as we could not get onto the hotel website .It is pretty expensive even b/b., but we pushed the boat on this one as it,s our last holiday this year. The rooms are large with balconies affording amazing views,a small kitchen area, enough to make tea/coffee and sandwiches, etc, also a microwave. The toilet is a good size too with shower over bath and toiletries provided.Only two small negatives, caters mainly for it seemed Spanish and Dutch at breakfast, but made most welcome. There is no exchange in hotel,eg,british travellers cheques to euros. But all in all,a really good hotel, pleasant staff, and an amazing location.Anyone needing details pm me.

“perfect sea view location”

room was not ready when we arrived at hotel, had to wait an hour for our room, but worth the wait. The bedroom was large and the lounge area had plenty of room for my 10 year old son to be more than comfortable, (great that we had seperate rooms for a change, usually all jammed into one room) The balconey was large enough to have a sun lounger in it along with table and 4 chairs. If you like sea views like myself this is the hotel for you, spectacular. I have been to Bemidorm many times on a regular basis and this is the best hotel i have been in for the size of the rooms and the views, but,( there,s always a but) the food was poor, catered for spanish not much for the British, ended up eating out after couple of visits to dinner, breakfast fine tho. Staff were pleasant and the rooms were spotless, no bath in our room, good shower tho. Great location, few hundred yards from the entertainment. We like the hotel that much i booked up right away for our return in October. You get a key card that gives you entry to gym, toilets and pool so no-one can wander about. Would recommend this hotel for views alone.

“Brilliant hotel.... no faults at all.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2008

We have just returned from 4 days in Spain, staying at Les Dunas Comodoro. From the checking in, right through to checking out, everything was excellent. We had a room nearly at the top, which had breathtaking views. Plenty of room for the 3 of us. The beds were very comfortable, and the air con served us very well!! The rooms were cleaned daily, beds remade etc, to an excellent standard. The meals we did have in the hotel were of a buffet style, with something to suit us all. No complaints at all. We will definately go back, and have no doubts at all that we will go to this hotel.... not worth looking elsewhere, as we had everything we needed.
Very well worth a visit...
