stayed here 25th sept with my wife & daugther.
This is my HONEST review of the hotel Torre Dorada, some good points, some not so good points, but i'll start with the good points.
booked direct through servigroup, requested high floor, sea view, corner room, and all 3 were honoured !. Allocated room on 9th floor (912).
Upon arrival, dropped off at calas marina hotel just down street, bit of a hill to climb to hotel, reception informed us room was not ready (arrived midday), so had drinks by poolside after stowing our luugage safely away, then by1 pm we were able to go to our room.
Room was a decent size - we had 4 beds in room, bathroom was compact but adequate, however the best part was the balcony - loads of room, and the views were simply amazing !.
The front balcony was 8ft x 10ft (approx) and the side balcony was 22ft (approx), we had views of the beach, old town, full pool/ terrace view, and the mountains, and you could sit on the balcony and watch the sunrise AND the sunset, brilliant !.
Pool / terrace; plenty sunbeds (no need to reserve them), spacious terrace, loads of tables & chairs, pool water was nice temp, clean, & poolside showers beside.
Restaurant; bright , spacious, air conditioned, could sit wherever you wanted to.
Breakfast; good choice , hot, tasty, nice coffee, and sparkling wine every morning (hic!)
Lunch; again plenty choice (we found lunch choice better than evening dinner), could do your own ice cream from machine, different flavours every day - kiwi was my favourite!.
Evening dinner; sometimes had theme nights- chinese, etc, soup- always very tasty, pork, beef and the like, salad table( this was almost identical every mealtime however). Drinks prices in restaurant reasonable, 1.60 coke/fanta, 1.70 local beer, 2.40 imported beer, & 7 euros for house wine, which tasted fine.
Entertainmant; we never stayed in hotel on evening so can't comment , however, singer etc were advertised on boards, the entetainmant room isn't huge, but looked ok., we prefered to venture into the old town, great atmosphere, always busy!.
NOW ,sadly, for those not so good points.
Restaurant; in the whole week we were there, not once( and this was a first for us) was there ANY warm / hot plates to be had, resulting in meals going cold by the time we'd finished - oddly, there was a plate warming trolley filled to the top with plates sat next to the hot food area , but was NEVER plugged in ??- what was that all about ?. Also, at breakfast if you wanted a fried egg, you had to go to a different servery away from the rest of the hot food, as the chef cooked them seperately, why weren't they brought over to the main servery ?.
Pool terrace; new sunbeds required please! the material covering them is too tight , so headrest is always upright, when you try to adjust them, you have to be like a contortionest, putting your hands behind your head whilst lying down on them, and putting the adjuster to the flat position, but the minute you sit up, the headrest springs up again(won't stay in slots)' and the whole arms thing starts again ! they are RUBBISH.
Finally (main gripe); day before checkout, i asked at reception if we could have a courtesy room, as we weren.t being picked up until 8 30pm . receptionist informed me to call back on day of departure after 2pm and arrange something then. Day of departure, asked again, only to be told " sorry, hotel is full", so no courtesy room available!.but, to make matters worse- and this is a big let down for this hotel, the only place you can get showered are the (very) public poolside showers, which we HAD to use, then (even worse) we had to change our clothes in the very small poolside toilet cubicle as there are NO other shower facilities in this hotel, even the toilets inside only have 1 cubicle each for male & female(unisex sinks in all toilets.
So some things are great- food, rooms staff etc, but not all plain sailing. This is my honest review. i hate it when reviewers write that it's " faultless" because in all honesty it isn't.
Having said all that, we would definitely stay here again, as the good things far outweigh the bad things.
i would like some feedback from the management of the torre dorada, and any future reviewers on the issues i have raised.
Thank you.
