“The sea view rooms are worth the extra”

This was our second year at the Selomar, and our tenth time in Benidorm over a 30 year period. Not the best food in Benidorm but OK, not the greatest room but again perhaps better than average, definitely not great entertainment but the location is undoubtedly the best. You are situated between the old and new town right on perhaps the nicest promenade in Spain, where everyone heads for each morning if they have no headache. In Nov., 2005 we arrived and were shown our room, somewhere on the side facing a wall which blocked everything out, we were not happy and would not have stayed. After consultation with the receptionist we agreed to pay 20 euros each per day, a total of 280 for 2 weeks, and it certainly was worth it. Every day we had the sun shining on us from 8 in the morning to 6 at night and had a great holiday, so much so that we repeated the experience in 2006. In conclusion the hotel generally would be average but if you enjoy a great view of sea and beach and want to watch the world go by , go for a room at the front.

“4 star it definitely isnt”

Ermm it may have been 4 star in the 70s but time has taken it's toll on the Selomar. It's barely 3 star now !! I agree with the previous comment, Awful 70s decoration, avarage food but edible. The roof area is well past it's sell-by date and needs refurbishing. My main complaint though were the rooms. I shared with a friend and the room was not big enough for 2. The beds were tiny and rock hard. There was a lot of noise from neighbours all around, but worst of all was the school at the back of the hotel where you would be awoken from 7am every day by hoards of screaming kids in the playground.
I would go again but only if assured of a sea view....oh and don't go if you're under 40. It was the annual Spanish pensioner convention and everything was aimed at them !!

“2 star”

Food very basic, more like 2 star food
Rooms need updating. You could face onto the wall of the next building. Very depressing if you are unlucky enough to be in this position. You could also have unruly spanish teenagers staying at the hotel keeping you awake until 4.30am. Security unable to keep this situation under control
There is no rooms available for luggage when you have vacated you room.
Prices for drinks go up at night. They say its because of the music, which only caters for the spanish anyway. And most of them are not even registered in the hotel and don't buy a drink, so the british mugs pay for it.
The hotel needs a good updating to bring it up to a 4 star. At the moment I would class it as a 2 star+. and the + is for its location right on the beach.

“Hated the Selomar”

Myself and my husband have just returned from the Hotel Selomar. The location is excellent, just beside the beach and all the attractions of Benidorm. This hotel may have been 4 stars about 20 years ago but certainly does not warrant that standard now. The staff were surly and unhelpful, the food at best was mediocre with steak and chicken being often served undercooked. There was no variety at meal times, and having paid for full board found ourselves eating out most nights. The entertainment was specifically geared towards the Spanish guests who did not stay at the hotel but came in at night for the entertainment. One of the British bar owners told us that the hotel was either being refurbished or pulled down in October/06, it can't be before time. I am suprised the Bali group associate their name with this hotel.

“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay !!”

We were welcomed by a smiling friendly man, our rooms were warm and comfortable. The maids were also smiling and friendly. We had excellent meals, with plenty of variety, and the Christmas lunch was an 8 course meal, served quickly and we had unlimited wine etc., The towels were changed daily, beds made etc., Our only slight problem was that our room smelt of stale tobacco fumes, and the rooms are a little bit dated, but spotlessly clean! We played pool in the lounge and had very nice coffee served to us. The waiters in the dining room are efficient and polite. In fact were treated like kings. We would definitely go again!
