Going back to the Poseidon on 17th Sept. for 7th or 8th time. My wife and I first stayed here along with three other couples about 12 yrs. ago. Yes,it does cater more for the Spanish guests but what would you expect when they make up about 85% of the clientele? However we have never experienced any feelings of being ignored or unhelpfulness, quite the contrary in fact. We have always found all the staff very pleasant and willing to help. If it weren't so we wouldn't keep going back!
What's so wrong about Spanish people being there? It is Spain after all! They are entitled to a holiday as well. If I wanted a holiday with wall to wall Brits then I would stay at home!.......... What am I saying! It's Benidorm we're talking about!
For the last six years we have taken our grandson with us. He is now 10 yrs old and loves this hotel,so much so, that when we say we are going to Benidorm he says,Only if we go to "oor" hotel! Even though he can't speak the language he has always managed to make friends with the other children and played with them daily for the time we were there. Language is no barrier to kids who want enjoy themselves!
The restaurant is buffet style with varied menu and I can't believe that people can't find something to their taste. Some nights, at least once a week, a carvery with freshly cooked legs of ham or roast pork. Always two types of soup and a range of sweets. As someone stated previously ample fresh fruit. Drinks are waiter service and orders are taken as soon as you have taken your seat, provided the place isn't extremely busy! Tip, dine early as the Spanish people tend to make dinner a social occassion and their mealtimes can last until the entertainment starts! Speaking of entertainment, I must agree that it is mainly Spanish orientated. They do like their culture! But the M.C. is always on hand to explain to "us foreigners" what is happening and what it's all about and before the "serious" stuff starts there is always at least an hour for the children such as kids disco or comic acts from the entertainment staff. Last time we were there they had a birds of prey exhibition. Yes, with live birds! The kids were fascinated. As were more than a few adults!
The hotel is in fact two hotels, the original Poseidon and the newer Palace, the upside being there are two large pools and two childrens' pools and plenty of sun loungers and if you can't get a lounger then that means that the pool area is full! There are sporting activities during the day such as pistol and rifle shooting and archery which the older kids are encouraged to take part in,supervised of course!
The hotel is situated at the bottom end of Levante beach close to, but not in, the old town if you want to ramble around authentic Spanish shops or tapas bars. Levante beach is five minutes walk and all the clubs and bars are 10 to 15 minutes walk depending on how fit you are! If that's too far you will find The Tower just around the corner with a variety of comedians and singers appearing nightly or if you prefer something a wee bit louder then try "Heartbreak" for live rock and blues afternoon and night or "Daytona" both of which are 5 mins. walk away at the beach.
Can't think of anything I dislike about Poseidon. Great location. every room with balcony, pleasant friendly staff, rooms cleaned daily, handy for the "Old Town" and at the quiter end of Levante beach resulting in no rowdies or discos. So you will get a good kip ready for the next day. Buenos Noches!
