“Not as good as it should be”

We only stayed for 1 night this time and we were disappointed. Our room was on the 22 floor even though the hotel was not busy, it was dusty and not very clean. We have stayed here before and this is the first time we were not pleased. The restaurant had very little selection for the evening meal and what we got was cold. The breakfast was good. Staff were freindly but not really very helpfull when we needed help to set up safe in the room we gave up waiting.

“Good value for money. Make sure....................”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

...................you book the hotel directly through their own website www.solmelia.com.
I had to spend one night on business in Benidorm. Having stopped at this location before, I searched all the well known discount hotel booking sites only to find the hotel's own site is by far the cheapest!
Rooms are basic / good. The lock on my balcony door didn't work, but to be honest if someone fancies edging along a ledge on the 15th floor, good luck to them!
One point I always smile at is that "why do they insist on grouping everyone together (I know its easier for the cleaners!) when the hotel is running at less than half capacity?" I had an annoying couple next door that kept me awake half the night.
Most people staying this time of year are all-inclusive and on extended breaks. Therefore don't expect the nightlife to be too wild!
Breakfast was to be honest a little bland. There was plenty of it which I suppose is what most residents want to fill up on!
One insider tip that made me smile..........the hit ITV program "Benidorm" is filmed at the hotel's sister hotel nearby. However all the film crew and some of the cast always choose this hotel as their preferred accommodation location when filming!! I think that counts as a reference!!!

“Not 4 Star”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

My wife and I stayed here for 10 nights, having booked directly on the Melia web site. I had looked at the reviews and as there were not any recent ones I thought the hotel would have improved. Not the case.
Our main corncern was with the cleanliness and service in the restaurant. It was a case of check your cutlery to see if the previous meal had been removed. 8 out 10 times it had not on at least one piece in the setting. Supposedly clean cups had to be checked to see whether traces of previous beverages were still on them. Glasses, for fruit juice, had obviously been used before and not thoroughly cleaned.
One morning the bread for toast was mouldy and when given back to the chef he just shrugged his shoulders and walked away.
It was difficult to find any hot food that was not swimming in a sea of oil.
Whilst the cleanliness of the bedroom was average, the bathroom was a different matter with, probably. a six month build up of dust and hair behind the bidet. It was obvoius that no bleach had been used down the toilet in a very long time.
The public toilet in the cafe bar area stank to high heaven.
All of the above problems relate to a general lack of managerial interest in the running of the hotel.
We do not consider that this hotel deserves to be rated as 4 star.

Room Tip: Find a different hotel.

“Nice find in Benidorm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Stayed at the Melia for the first time in 4 visits over the years to Benidorm and was very well impressed with the standard of the Hotel. We'd booked only days before we got there via the Travel Republic site and as it wasn't one of the dearer Hotels on offer we didn't know what to expect and was a lil apprehensive before we got there, "we" as in my partner and her sister and her huband had booked a last minute trip and was meeting up with my partners other sister and huband who had gone a few days ealier to a differrent Hotel in another part of Benidorm to celibrate New Year, we arrived on the night before New Years eve and although quite late when the coach dropped us off outside we knew we had chose a decent Hotel just from walking through the very impressive reception which to be honest looked more like a tropical garden that rose up 4 storeys high, we soon had our room cards and was placed on the second floor just 2 rooms apart which was nice, we used the glass lift to get there which is a nice touch and you can see all around you which gave a touch of class to the Hotel.

We entered our room and again was surprised on how spacious it was, nice comfy beds with good pillows and spares in the large glass fronted wardrobes that had plenty of hangers and also where the pay to use safe was although we didn't use it.

The bathroom had an almost full sized bath with a desent shower and the usual marble top with sink, toilet and bidet, towels were of good quality and changed if you left them on the floor, the room was made up each day but unsure if the sheets were changed but we were only staying for 2 nights so not a problem.

The TV was a flat screen and a nice size with 4/5 english channels on but as your on hol not really needed, there was also a large balcony with 2 chairs which faced the lovely pool and gardens, all the rooms face the pool so no need to ask or pay extra but if its a sea view you want well doubt it but maybe on the top floor you'd get a small peek inbetween rows of high rise blocks as this is Benidorm and the Hotel is well set back from the prom area and a good 10min walk away down a not to bad slope but coming back it feels a bit steeper but nothing to worry most about and at night we'd get a taxi back which was around 6euro.

We stayed on a B&B basis and the breakfast was the usual which was plentiful and what should have been hot was hot so doubt anyone could be saying it wasn't upto much but hey there's born moaners even when there's nothing to moan about isn't there so im sure someone would find fault.

So if i was was to go back to Benidorm i'd certainly have no problem picking the Melia again and the only thing i can fault it on is that its not in the heart of things but that suited us fine as there wasn't any late night noise but as it was New Years we didn't really care as if you cant let a bit of steam off then whan can you.

Room Tip: Rooms upto 4th floor look larger and if you register with the Hotel they let you use your room later...

“Melia-standard with unexpected encounters”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

The impression of our stay in the Melia Benidorm in the period late Oktober / early November was certainly not bad, although with some unexpected and surprising facts that need to be mentioned.

The hotel as such is good, as may be expected from the Melia group. The rooms are standard, clean and fine. All toiletries that are customary in other Melia-hotels are missing here, although.

Breakfast is very extensive in a huge hall: sometimes a bit too crowded and loud, but everything (and more) one can think of is available. And the staff is keen to assist and to keep everybody happy. We booked breakfast-only; mass-lunch or mass-dinner doesn’t appeal very much.

As we had a room in one of the lower floors we had no problems with the elevators. Reception was sometimes understaffed – hate to imagine this situation in the busy season. There is no internet available (unless you pay extra). And in the room is a safe for valuables. But: you need to obtain the key for that from reception. And that costs as well !!

When you visit Benidorm by car (and a lot of people do, because it is a hell of walk) it is convenient to book a spot in the garage. Costs app 12 Euro/day. During our visit the underground parking was almost empty.

During our stay there was some sort of darts-contest in this hotel. The lobby and restaurants were pretty crowded with (British?) contestants and family. But the most particular meeting we had was with a big cockroach on the corridor of the 4th floor.

All by all: the Melia Benidorm is in its sort a pretty nice hotel. At many places crowded and noisy, but people looking for peace and rest don’t travel to his city anyway.
