Having stayed on previous occasions and been satisfied, I feel very let down with my last visit. I was given room 1010 on the 10th floor for my week's stay,15th-22nd January 2012.
Everything was fine until I started to pack my luggage to come home, only to find 2 bottles of whiskey and a new pair of shoes were missing from the floor of the wardrobe. I immediately informed Reception and was advised that the Manager was not available until Tuesday and only he could scroll through the CCTV footage of floor 10, which would show all activity of anyone entering my room.
After several exchanges of emails plus 2 telephone calls, I was advised that the CCTV footage had been viewed and had not shown any unusual activity. I was also told that any staff who may have entered my room had been interviewed, though It is obvious that nobody is going to admit to stealing and risk losing their job.
This incident has left me feeling upset and angry. Not only at the thought of anyone going through my personal possessions and stealing from me, but also because I feel that the staff at the hotel did not attach any particular importance to the incident. In my opinion, this is the wrong attitude to have as it can easily damage the reputation of the hotel and consequently affect their business. I certainly will never stay at the Calypso again or recommend it to anyone else.
