“Fantastic little hotel in a great spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

We stayed here for a week in October. The bedroom and bathroom were not massive but certainly fine for us. We loved the quirky decor but the best thing was the location. It is just off the nicest square in Alicante and has lots of bars and restaurants nearby. This does mean that you get noise later at night (together with some buiding work opposite) but this wasn't a problem with the windows and shutters closed. If you aren't a late night person it might not be the place for you but if you want to join in the Spanish hours it is perfect. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel but there are lots of places nearby. Try it - you'll like it.

Room Tip: If you are worried about noise I think they have some rooms facing away from the street

“It's all about location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

Three years later we returned to Alicante and again to Monges Palace, this time we are travelling with pre paid euro cards, so there is no possibility of being charged in £££ like last time!!!!
Our room was a comfortable twin with basic furnishings and a miniscule bathroom. The shower rose must be badly corroded because it was like standing under a hosepipe, but the water was always hot and clean towels provided when requested. Should you stay I would recommend you take earplugs, not to shield against the building work opposite, of which we heard very little, but against noise from other guest rooms and corridors.
The breakfast room has been refurbished and modernised since our last visit. The Monges Palace is definitely good value but it is nowhere near 3* as suggested.
Staying at the Monges Palace is all about location as it's ideally situated for the beach and plenty of bars and restaurants.

“Certainly NOT a 2* hostel! This is a beautiful high end 3* hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

We were booked into this hotel by a friend for our last night in Alicante.

Located in the beautiful old town this converted nunnery has a stunning amount of character. The rooms are extremely reasonable in price (52 euros). The room was compact but what it lacked in overly excessive size it made up with stunning character.

This is definitely a place to stay for a few nights in Alicante old town.

Room Tip: Room 11 is very very dark and quiet and the bed is in the big old fireplace! Stunning!

“Great Find In a Fabulous City!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

Great little find this one. Spent 9 nights here. A comfortable, friendly hotel. Our room was quite cool (we kept the blids and shutters shut during the day) and we only needed the air con on when we were getting ready to go out of an evening. Cool enough to sleep without it on. Rooms were cleaned (really thoroughly) every day which isn't always the case in Spanish hotels we've stayed in. Fresh towels every day. Reception staff were very courteous. Right in the heart of the old part of the city, in the shadow of the castle. Everything right on the doorstep - good bars, graet restaurants, buses, beach, harbour, shopping. Really couldn't be in a better place.
Mini bar in the room was fantastic value - cans and bottles from just 1 Euro - same price as a supermarket.
Internet use and good coffee (for a fee) available in reception.
Only thing stopping me giving it an "excellent" is that our room (19) was just a little on the tiny side (but that wouldn't stop me from staying here again!). I think I should have paid slightly more and chosen a bigger room - but hey we were out most of the day and evening (always so much to do in Alicante) so weren't even in the room that long. Some people have written of the place being noisy - we never heard a thing once our heads touched the pillows!
We'll certainly go back to Alicante for a return visit and will have no hesitation in staying at Les Monges Palace.

“Quiet, charming restored building”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2011

Stayed in a single with bathroom with windows facing the interior shaft - very quiet since it wasn't facing the street. Hotel is centrally-located just steps from City Hall with plenty of restaurant choices next door. The Santa Barbara elevator and beach are also within walking distance. Hotel's interiors have been renovated taking into account its history and the room was very clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Minibar was well-stocked and prices were reasonable. However, taxis cannot reach right to the door although they can be hailed from 2 blocks away. Alternatively, it's a 20-minute comfortable walk to the main train station.
