We stayed at Les Monges in September 2008. We stayed in Room 9 which was really nice, great size and for Europe, an exceptional size bathroom. Room service good, mini bar prices reasonable. Nice decor, nice room temperature.
On the first night, there was an awful lot of street noise but it strangely disappeared for the other two nights. There was a confusion about our booking, we had booked three nights but the hotel only had record of one. Pedro sorted this out for us. He also sorted out access to an iron for me.
I would recommend this place, but make sure that you get explicit confirmation of your booking and have some ear plugs. Good value for money.

The room is very small. The bathroom can barely fit one person. Having said that, we only paid 39 euro a night so given that price, I can't really complain. The location cannot be beat - smack right in the old town where all the action is at night.

People in Spain are friendly but my general experience with hotel staff is that they are not that friendly. Our spanish is limited and the staff does not speak English well so it was difficult to get information about the town. But then it is such a small place it is not difficult to figure out the layout/places to see.

We had booked 16 days in hostels in Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and Czech Rep. After 10 days of cold and rain north of the Alps we decided to fly back to Spain early for the warm sun but no hostel booked. We randomly picked Les Monges and what a find! The location couldn't be better. We were close to the beach, close to the barrio, in a very historic area. It was quiet, clean, modern, stylish, comfortable, and very affordable. The staff was pleasant and helpful. I will never want to stay anywhere else in beautiful Alicante.
