This pension is right in the heart of the old town. It isn't available via booking websites, but it looked so good that we booked it by phone. Fortunately my husband speaks fluent Spanish so there was no problem. It is really nice to have a hostal which isn't like all the others - it is lovingly decorated in a very individual way. The only negative thing about our room was that it had a very narrow window looking on to the small inner courtyard - but for 45 Euros, we weren't complaining. The room was big enough, the bed was very comfortable, everything was very clean, there were beautiful tiles in the bathroom, the people were friendly.

Located in the old section of Alicante in a building that once housed a nunnery, Les Monges is quaint. Rooms are cozy and full of antiques. Not far from cafes, restaurants, museums, the castillo and the waterfront. Taxi let us off at the edge of the old quarter so we walked a couple of blocks with our bags, but it was definitely worth it.

We stayed at Les Monges in September 2008. We stayed in Room 9 which was really nice, great size and for Europe, an exceptional size bathroom. Room service good, mini bar prices reasonable. Nice decor, nice room temperature.
On the first night, there was an awful lot of street noise but it strangely disappeared for the other two nights. There was a confusion about our booking, we had booked three nights but the hotel only had record of one. Pedro sorted this out for us. He also sorted out access to an iron for me.
I would recommend this place, but make sure that you get explicit confirmation of your booking and have some ear plugs. Good value for money.
