A night in Pamplona was a last minute decision, taken during a motoring holiday which had taken us through France with our final destination being San Sebastian. Our guide book told us that the Hotel Occidental Europa was "expensive" but we thought, "what the heck we're on holiday."
The reception was up one flight of stairs which would probably cause a problem for disabled clients. We struggled with our luggage. The main hotel, however, did have a lift. The receptionist, who spoke fluent English, told us that they had a room available for the one night at 160 Euros, plus taxes (about 190 Euros in total). After being accustomed to French prices we though this was reasonable. The price also included car parking but not breakfast.
Our double room was immaculate and although on the small side it was very comfortable.
The location of the hotel was second to none, being about 100 yds from the main square, the Place de Navarra and about the same from the Place de Torros and the streets where the running of the bulls takes place in June. For us, the best part was the proximity of a number of fantastic tapas bars.
Although we did not sample the hotel restaurnt (too many tapas!), a quick glance at the menu was enough to tell us that this was a serious eating place and probably worth a visit another time, which is just what we intend to do.
We are definitely returning to Pamplona next year and will be staying at the Hotel Europa, hopefully for more than one night.
