This was the worst hotel stay of our week in Spain. The cab dropped us off but we could not see the sign in the darkened street, nor was there any obvious name on the door/buzzer. We managed to get inside and go up the tiniest elevator to her 4th floor hostal, inside a larger apartment building. It's unclear if this hostal is spread onto several floors by the signage. But the older lady who greeted us did not know English, and acted as if she didn't have our reservation. When we produced it on our ipad, she said she had a room for us in that price range. However it was worst, smallest, scariest room at the end of very narrow, zig zag hallways. At that our we were in no mood to negotiate a better, more expensive room. We had use of the 3 shared baths, which were all old, run down and gross. She & the cleaning staff smoke, which permeates the rooms. You'll also see the cigarretes in the toilet. The two twin matresses were uncomfortable and thin, bedding was pilly, polysester and old. Wardrobe was too big for room, door can't open completely. There a fireplace w/ chair as you enter, but half of the mantle was buried in the drywall. Electrical wiring appeared hazardous. Some may find this charming, we just wanted a comfortable, quiet room, we got neither. You can hear people in the the room adjacent, loud and clear. We felt scammed, after seeing the purple and orange rooms in rest of photos. Please make sure you confirm what room you are booking and do not get taken advantage of when she feigns understanding English and shows you the worst room. Location is great however, right near the Opera and metro station. That was the only positive aspect of our stay.
