“central and good value”

went back to Madrid for a long week end over New Year eve in 2011 .
The hotel is very central off the Gran Via on a side street on the way to Sol , Chueca is 2 minutes on foot , overall great location .
Room was a good size and bathroom functional with a great shower , WIFI worked very well and as complimentary .
The safe in the room was big enough for my mac and I pad and very easy to work with any CC ( again complimentary )
Considering that the room was not expensive at all I will go back again

Room Tip: ask for a room at the front with a balcony

“Except for the basement rooms”

On arrival we were first of all put in a room that was slightly below ground level but we requested a move and were put in a Balcony room. This was a very great improvement and WiFi worked OK in these rooms as well. Staff were very amendable and attempted to meet all of our requests and enquiries. The location of the hotel was terrific - Just off the Grand Via. Car parking is discounted when the Hotel stamps your ticket but beware when arriving. If you pull up at the hotel door you have gone past the car park entrance and it is quite difficult to get back to unless like I did is drive back accross the square. Nobody seemed to notice. Plenty of Laundries in the area but if trying to google locations put in the Spanish word for Laundry or you wont get any results.

“Like a very nice hostel”

My mother and I stayed here for 2 nights, and didn't love this hotel, but there was nothing drastically wrong. It was clean and reasonably well-appointed, but fell apart at the seams. The safe didn't work - and no one arrived to fix it - the front desk staff upon our arrival were not particularly welcoming, and the bathroom, while clearly filled with new things, had a ridiculously fancy shower head - out of which almost no water came (and it sprayed in every direction, soaking the entire bathroom). And, surprisingly to us, the bathroom door was just a glass door that swung both ways! So no privacy. Breakfast was so-so, and was an extra charge.

We had a room in the back of the hotel, with no view (except of other windows, where across the way other guests kept leaving their curtains open and clothes off...). It seems there are cute front rooms with little Juliet balconies, that might be nicer.

The location is great, however - we were right at a Metro stop (Gran Via) and walking distance to Plaza del Sol, and a bit further to Plaza Santa Ana. That was a big plus as we tried to find our way around the city - and for returning midday for siesta. Plus wifi was included, which I appreciated as well. Housekeeping stopped by and were up to par as well.

NOTE: If you are sensitive to scents, you will have problems in this hotel. I'm not, but I did notice that there are air deodorizers EVERYWHERE in the building, and it seems as if they even scent the air coming out of the air ducts!

Overall: spartan digs, nothing luxurious that would make you want to hang at the hotel, but it got the job done and location is great.

Room Tip: Ask for the front rooms, I'd guess they're nicer and have better windows (though still not a...

“Don't go if you have got a car”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

If you have got a car don't choose this hotel, it's too near the centre: 22 € per day garage fee. The room was smelling both days (maybe because of the carpet), a very bad smell. Water spills out from the shower in the bathroom. Receptionists aren't so nice as well.
It wasn't a double bed but two twin beds.
