“horrible”

It is billed as a 4 star however it does not even measure up to a 2 star. It is dirty, smelly, with a dis respectable staff. It is not suitable for travelers who need a clean, welcoming, place to stay. we requested early check in, higher floor, and non smoking. We left rather then submit to their "extra charge to check in early" - sleeping in a room on the 2nd floor that was so small it would have been impossible for 2 adults live in it or take the only room available on the "smoking floor" or " pay 30 euros to have a room on a higher floor".
We are currently disputing their charges because we canceled. We did not cancel - we refused to stay.

“too dark, my biggest complaint, can't see well enough to read or use computer”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2010

I don't know how business people can stand staying in this business type hotel with a computer in every room. It is just to dark to do any work, even with all the lights on and for that reason I would never stay there again. You can't even read a book. Little desk room because tv was also on desk. I had a smoking room only because it was bigger than the no smoking room and the smoking floor reeked of smoke in the carpets in the hall. Halls were dark, dark and more dark and with the grey rugs etc, very unattractive. Although the bedroom design was upscale and modern and the bathroom shower features like a spa, the place was too dreary.
Breakfast room was neat and bright on the top floor and surrounded by windows, but very expensive for the buffet, around 17 euros. Great view.
Too many stairs to reach the reception desk and then more stairs to reach the elevator - not good for lots of luggage or handicapped person.

“would have being better off staying in a rubbish bin”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

Do not stay at this Hotel, the room we had was stinking of smoke, and was poorly lit .Even when all the lights were on during the day it still was very dark(maybe this was to disguise the dirt of the room and the damp patch on the ceiling). The hotel layout was the worst i have ever seen and lacked any atmosphere, the breakfast area was dated and uninviting and we decided to eat out even though breakfast was paid for .The only good thing i could say about this hotel was the location. On checking out i was served with an extremely overpriced mini bar bill and was charged for items we didn't even have, the staff were unhelpful and lacked enough english to deal with the mini bar problem, the list of items that were suppose to be in the fridge and the price of the items was not in the room for the duration of my stay, be warned!!!

“Terrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 May 2010

Made a reservation at this hotel for 3 nights in march for spring break.. Location during the day was good. At night location was bad. Had to leave windows open in march since the rooms were smelling real bad and dark.No proper lights. If they had proper lights you would see all the cracks and patch -ups in the walls. When we left windows open, then the people singing and loud shouting would come in and it was so cold at night. . They did not have another room for us. The next day we went looking for another hotel with 2 kids and 7 pieces of luggage after i told them how bad our room was. There was no internet connection either . They still charged us for 3 nights although we were there only for 1 night. Talked to them many times after I got back to US but they will not refund the money for the 2 nights we were not there. We paid for the night we were there. The hotel does not look like in the photos shown here for the hotel. The lobby does not look like a lobby. Not at all a 4 star. So if you plan on having a relaxing stay in madrid ,DO NOT stay at this hotel. When you travel out of the country ,you hope to get what you think you are going to have. Not even a 2 star. Very disappointing.

“great location; inpractical structure for a hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2010

We chose the location for a short couple of days during the Christmas Holidays as we wanted to spend time shopping and relaxing in the center of Madrid. We found the hotel to be in a perfect location, just steps away from Corte Ingles and Puerta del Sol. The hotel's service is minimal; there is a long staircase from the very entrance of the hotel to reach the front desk area, and then another set of stairs to reach the lifts. The floor hallways seem like the hotel was awkardly designed and the hallways are dark and lack proper signage. The breakfast area has a buffet that lacked eye-appealing presentation. We ended up having breakfast just outside of the hotel at a cool little local place wher the bocatas were the best. The room is tight with furnitura that seems inexpensive and cluttered. To reach the bathroom inside our room we had to again take several steps to the next level. I would consider staying somewhere else on our next short trip to Madrid
