“Madrid - wonderful for shopping, eating, evenings out and sight seeing!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2011

The location of the hotel is very good - close to shops, eateries, cafes, metro stations, bars, nightclubs, etc. We were able to walk to many places of interest - parks, etc. Our room was very clean, with modern furniture (like in the picture) and was spacious - especially for Europe (note: room sizes can vary greatly within hotels in Europen city centers). The bathroom had modern fixtures and a really good shower. We were on the 3rd floor and other than normal city sounds (the occasional siren) it was quiet and easy to sleep to noon - hey, it's vacation :). The breakfast buffet was very reasonable at 6 Euro per person - the food was good enough for the price.

The beds, like at some other European hotels were very hard. If you like a firm hard mattress - you will be happy. If not, I took the two blankets in the room and put them under the bed sheet - problem solved. There is a buzzer on the entry door to the hotel - it's a good security feature, but sometimes a pain when no one is at the desk. Other than that - it was fine.

“not bad for a 3-star hotel”

we found this hotel to be a decent value and in a great location. the hotel breakfast is excellent (cold cuts, hot bacon and eggs, breads, cereals, yogurt, fruit, hot coffee, fresh juice). churros and hot chocolate are nice for one or two mornings (chocolateria san gines is close by--yum!); but for a heartier, balanced breakfast, you won't find anything close to the hotel breakfast, for the price (about $10/adult, $8 for kids). especially convenient for families with kids or elderly. we paid $147/night for 4 twin beds in one room (two are fold-down, bunk-bed style), called the "family room" when you book. it's nice to know what one will pay upfront for the additional beds, which is not the case for other hotels. it was squishy in the room, with no space for laying down luggage. no table (one small desk) and no drawers to put clothes away. so i was constantly laying down luggage on the bed and having to dig through our family's clothes. there is a small closet with five hangers and a free private safe (operable with one's credit card). the bathroom was very spacious, but NO counterspace for one's toiletries and only one hook. a nice shower with steam and massage function (which you will never use). the hotel is not well-maintained and worn around the edges. my daughter nicked her finger on the showerhead where the metal coil was unraveling (the hotel promptly fixed it). also, we did find a hair when we rolled back the covers, as well as a few animal hairs on our wool coats--which, much to my disgust, is because the hotel is pet-friendly. had i known this in advance, i would never have booked at this hotel. EVENSO, believe it or not, the room felt pretty clean, was well-swept, no dust bunnies, no grime. location-wise, we did not have a problem with it being on a major thoroughfare, and found the proximity to attractions very walkable. only time we fetched taxis was at night because of the temperature drop. my 15-yr old daughter loved being in a retail area--the hotel is next door to one of the two H&M's on gran via. we slept well at night (didn't hear street noise; heater worked well), except the floors get chilly from the draft coming in through the balcony doors. but, once under the covers, the room is quite comfortable.

free wifi and laptop in the room, and two in the lobby.

i'm hesitant to recommend this hotel because of the pet thing. but if you don't mind that idea, and can get a great price, than yes, i think it's recommendable for its location and family room.

“Great hotel in central location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2010

This hotel has clean, modern rooms with great showers!!

It's central for sightseeing or going out. The staff are friendly and speak basic English.

There's a free safe in the room and public internet in the foyer.

The hotel had a young crowd though we were there in the middle of Gay Pride.

“Is there a rating less than 1?”

My heart sank when I saw the room offered to us. On the third try, we got a room that was, at the very best, bordering on "tolerable." We would have bailed out of there in a heartbeat if we could have found other rooms. Nothing available; huge soccer match that weekend and all places fully booked. The rooms are postage stamp sized, with virtually no place to store your clothes. You live out of a suitcase. The street noise is 24/7. One has to be comotose to get a decent nights sleep. Sometimes, when asking for help at the desk, I would be met with a glazed look. How does this sound: when asking for some ice, I was told there was a little store down the block where I could get some. To be as fair as possible: the breakfasts were very good, and when I needed help to cancel stolen credit cards, the person at the desk could not have been more helpful. In summary: If this were the only place I could stay in Madrid, I would not go to Madrid.

“Great Location but A/C a bit noisy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 March 2010

We stayed at the PPI Madrid for 3 nights and thought the location was excellent, very close to Metro stops and main tourist areas. The staff were very helpful upon arrival giving information on requesed topics.
The room was clean, spacious, and quiet from outside noise apart from the air conditioning, which for me as a light sleeper gave a constant whirr noice.
In fairness one of the night porters offered an alternative room but it was the same.
So, moral of the story, go out for a good meal with a good few glasses of wine, and you'll sleep sound..
