“Good choice away from city centre”

Generally I dont like writing reviews but I found Tripadvisor review is 1 of the most effective tool to select hotels an decided to share my experience with potential tourist to Madrid.
I have been in this hotel in early Nov 2009. I am a budget traveller and paid GBP42 per night for 5 nights. My experience was quite satisfactory. Location is western edge of Madrid. Bit far from Gran Via and Sol but being very near to metro, it takes 25 minutes to reach Sol and el rasto.
Shops and restaurents are within easy access , not more than 5 minute walk.
The breakfast was pretty decent though there is no much variety in menu to choose
The area is quiete and the hotel staffs are nice.
They provides a good selection of free local maps which have got enough detail and extremely useful for peole new to Madrid.
Tioiles were with good spec and clean. Room service was satisfactory.

The only negative I noticed is their bedding. Though they were clean but looks bit old and there were pretty enough sings of ageing.

If I go Madrid again, would definitely consider staying there as one of the viable option.

“Close-ish to airport - neat hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2008

Having an early return flight to Brussels I picked this hotel. It's about 20 minutes from the airport and there is a free shuttle bus. Room was great, modern, lovely bed, good bathroom facilities. Breakfast was good, not a massive choice al à American but more than enough. Some bars and resturants about 20 minutes walk away or pick up something on the way and sit outside in the covered garden on a warm Madrid evening, would return for sure.

  • Liked — Modern clean hotel, very trendy and chic
  • Disliked — room was in sub-basement

“Advertised as close to Airport, but ONLY by TAXI”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2008

We booked here because it was advertised as close to the airport and we had an early flight.

Since Madrid Airport has a Metro Station, It would have been easier to get there from a hotel in the city center.

In this hotel you have to walk a lot, more than 40 min. to go by metro. Or take a taxi, which will be about 14 euros. Taxis charge a supplement of 5euros for going and coming back from the airport.
The hotel shuttle charges also 14 euros.

The hotel itself is very nice, and breakfast was excellent, on a very nice terrace.
If you have a car, this is a very good option. (7.50 euros p/d charges for parking

“Great sanctuary”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2007

I recently stayed at the Acis y Galatea for a short transit stop in between flights.

I originally found the hotel via reviews/forum posts on Tripadvisor, but thought I'd try my luck, despite the mixed reviews. I didn't want to battle through issues of non-friendly staff or noisy rooms.

I originally only wanted a day room as we had a 13hr transit stop after a 25hr flight and I didn't really want to spend more than the necessary time in transit. I ended up paying 120euro for the room (standard charge) regardless.

I was travelling solo with my young toddler so sleep for us was a must!

After wading through the maze of Barajas airport, the bus stop for the airport shuttle stop (together with the bus-stop.. just keep walking till you see it) was easy enough to find, and after a phone call to the hotel, the shuttle arrived within 15mins.

The female reception staffmember was fabulous (I'm pretty sure she works most morning/day shifts, but her name escapes me). Very customer focussed & friendly, quite contrary to the usual spanish view of 'customer service'!

Room was quiet & lovely, room service & food great - no complaints really. We had a fabulous restful break & loved it.

The only negative thing I'd say would be the shuttle back. I was assured by the female member that I could get a shuttle back for my evening flight, but when we woke up & spoke to the next reception staffmember, he said definitely no shuttles after 430pm. He was polite & courteous enough, but none of the 'open, friendly, nothing was a trouble' customer service we had before. We ended up with a taxi, which was all efficiently arranged & I think under 8euro back to the airport.

I'd definitely go back for a short stay if I wanted to be near the airport. Not a great location for Madrid siteseeing - but that wasn't the point of our stay.

  • Liked — The room, food, airport location
  • Disliked — That I had to pay a full nights rate for a day-stay - but I expected that in all Madrid.

“Worst place ever!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2006

We booked this hotel at the Madrid airport via a travel agent. For the price, we expected a lot. It was the most expensive hotel on our 1 month trip of Spain. Needless to say, I am forewarning everyone who reads this review, it was the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Hostels are more safe than this place. It's situated behind the highway, far from the airport and the center of Madrid, but the worst of it is the staff broke into our room. While my girlfriend and I were sleeping, the host broke into our room. While we contacted the owner directly, neither he or the employee compensated us. Had we not been in the room, who knows what he would have done. This is at 12 am!?!?!? Cleaning the rooms, why don't I believe that. There's only like 8 rooms, so be careful, it can happen to anyone. And for the price you're paying, you're better off at a large chain hotel, this would never happen, let alone without rectification.

  • Liked — although modern, staff is lousy
  • Disliked — the fact the staff broke into our room
  • Tips/Secrets — do not come here
