I made a reservation here through Venere, although I cancelled in time because I found a better place to stay for a lower price I found that they had charged my credit card for one night as soon as they got my credti card info even though Venere said they would not charge anything unless I missed the dead line for cancelling. I called this place to see why and this guy called Luis Miguel Pascual answered me very unpolitely and with a very xenophobic attitude told me that he did this because I was Ecuadorian and that Ecuadorians always cancell their reservations. He was very unpolite and rough. Nobody should treat clients nor people in general like this guy did. Latter I tried to fix this problem through Venere and amazingly this guy called me a thieve for asking 60 Euros instead of the 60 dollars he had charged. I told him that I never asked Venere more than what I was stolen and he answered me with insults full of bad words and racism for beiing South American. Even more, he dared me to go back to Spain and fight him. I still cant belive it but it is the truth. He is the only bad Spaniard I meet on my trip, the rest of the people where very kind.
I don not reccomend visiting this place, I am not the only person saying that this guys can steal you money or treat you badly please notice that there are other reviews confirming what I say about this hostal. Do yourself a favour and avoid staying here.

Staff goes out of their way to be rude. The woman who checked me in couldn't speak a single word of English and would give me attitude or curse me in Spanish when I wouldn't understand what she said. Worse, she would make fun of my Spanish whenever I'd make a mistake. No one deserves this kind of disrespect.

This hostel is located at Sol but in a quiet street around the corner, which is quite convenient. They claim to have had it renovated, however, they forgot one half: My room had a fancy flat-screen tv and painted walls but they forgot about the old (!) mattress and the mold in the shower. The single rooms face the lightwell, which is not very pleasant. However, what bothered me the most was the unfriendly staff (with a few exceptions). The walls are very thin so that you can hear (and be heard) quite clearly all over the place. Last but not least I found it quite worrying that you had to leave your key in a box that was accessible to everybody. They said it was being monitored by a camera - but you never know. One more positive aspect: The room and the hostel in total were clean.
To sum it up: If you are looking for a central, quite reasonable (I paid EUR 45 for a single in November) clean hostel, needing neither service nor inhouse food, this could be the one.

Sorry, but the location its absolutely superb, 50metres to puerta del sol and plaza mayor!! The hostal its quite good, but simple, it is only a floor, with no services to have lunch, but who cares?? there are hundred of restaurants on madrid, from tapas to indian! The room as wireless internet, ask for the password! The staff at first was strange because you need to leave the key there, its 24h cctv! and worked just fine, because nothing bad happen! The room is simple, but ok! The bathroom could be upgrade, but there is HOT water, despite other reviews! I recommend a sushi place called NIPO, ask the staff, in the hostal there is a place with a lot of cards, publiciting restaurants, bars and trips!!
