“Great Service and Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2010

My second stay here the first time was when it was part of the Sol Chain of hotels...have great people at reception and gladly gave me an early check - in which was great because I had an early flight..
Overall its a good budget hotel and used normally by businessmen visiting Madrid. The only downside was they start cleaning rooms at 9 a.m. sometimes noisy after a heavy night out..

“Good value hotel in quiet area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2010

We stayed here one night after attending a family wedding outside Madrid. The hotel was in a quiet residential area of Madrid as we were visiting family near there that evening. We arrived around midday and were given our room immediately. Decent size with adequate bathroom, very clean and comfortable. Parking in the street and, as it was a Sunday, it was free until the following morning from 9.00 a.m., then payable. The hotel did not have its own car park so, if travelling by car, you would need to keep this in mind. However, it was fairly near the Metro system for travelling into the historic centre of Madrid. We didn't eat dinner there but there the breakfast was excellent - good choice of dishes with fresh fruit, eggs, pastries, etc. and excellent coffee (even though from a machine!). Friendly reception staff. We found it good value for a capital city hotel - we paid E70 for double room and breakfast. Small typical family restaurants nearby for eating out.

“GOOD HOTEL, WOULD RECOMMEND TO FRIENDS.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2010

The hotel was clean, quiet and near transportation, which gives you access to the city center, and also to the train station if you would like to go to Toledo for a day. The hotel is also within walking distance to the Real Madrid Soccer Stadium (one of the highlights of our trips). Our room was definitely smoke free, (my husband loved the water pressure) and the neighborhood was more than decent. We felt safe and at home. The neighborhood had plenty of stores, restaurants and supermarkets. The staff at the hotel were very nice and helpful. Across the street is a neighborhood restaurant, (it seemed to be a neighborhood favorite), we ate most of our meals there and watched a couple of soccer games there as well. The food was great. We recommend the "Menu del dia" (menu of the day). It is a good deal, it includes a first course, a second course, a drink (it could be beer or wine if you like), and a dessert for less than 10 euros. On holidays and weekends it may be 2 euros more, but you get something extra included in your meal. Though we stayed for 5 days, we felt like we were living in Madrid.

“solid hotel, good price”

This was the 1st hotel I stayed in in Spain. At first I thought it should have included some xtras (wifi specifically, for which you have to pay by the hour or day and since I was working on a thesis I was pissed). But after staying in several other similarly priced hotels in Spain, I decided Mercedes is pretty nice. Location is good, not in the center of Madrid but trust me, you don't want to stay in Sol unless you plan on partying 'til 3am every night. The metro in Madrid makes it easy to get anywhere & the neighborhood has charm, also pretty quiet. Taxes included in price, very clean, nice bathroom & giant tub. Overall a solid hotel. You do have to pay for breakfast & wifi like I said but they are upfront about all costs.

“Good value for money in a quiet neighbourhood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 May 2009

This hotel provides clean, safe, quiet accommodation very close (by Metro and bus) to Madrid's tourist centres, but far enough away from them to largely avoid the hassles that accompany being in the very heart of the city. The hotel is in a residential neighbourhood that has all necessary shops and other services (hairdressers, dry cleaner, etc.), and is a five-minute walk from the nearest Metro station, with fast and regular connections to all parts of the city. Rooms are not huge -- I had an attic double for single use and wouldn't have liked to have shared it with anybody due to space limitations. Having said that, the room is provided with all the usual amenities, as well as heating and a/c, the bathroom is fully equipped (includes bath and bidet, items often left out of tourist hotel bathrooms nowadays given space considerations), and the room was extremely quiet. In fact, waking up in the morning to the sound of sparrows cheeping and a neighbour's chickens clucking around made it seem like a countryside hotel. Although breakfast is provided in the hotel at an extra charge, guests can hop across the road to the large bar that is directly in front of the hotel's front door and have breakfast and other meals there at reasonable prices. There are another couple of restaurants on the same street, in the direction of the Metro station.
This is not a luxury hotel where you'd stay if you're seeking a five-star experience or a special honeymoon, for example. What it does offer is excellent value for money, excellent service from reception (nothing was too much bother for the staff), and a very quiet, safe environment in a nice residential neighbourhood which provides a new and refreshing take on Madrid if you're weary of staying in the noisy, dirty tourist centre which is plagued by pickpockets.
