We stayed at Hostal San Isidro on two occasions during our trip with my husband and three of our children (ages 16, 14, 11). We stayed for 4 nights upon arriving to Spain via Madrid, then we returned for one night before flying home after visiting other cities. We had two rooms, a double and triple. During our first stay, we were in two rooms on the first floor (a floor before the reception). The rooms were of good size, our room had a queen sized bed, AC worked well in both rooms, and bathrooms were on the smaller side but very functional. When we returned for the one night, we stayed in two rooms on the same floor as the reception area. These rooms were smaller, all beds were twin sized and overall the rooms were not quite as nice. The staff was extremely helpful, even helping us print our boarding passes on the last day. We used their laundry service and we were very pleased with it. The location is very central - close to Santa Ana and a very short walk to Porta del Sol and Plaza Mayor. Breakfast is easy to find as there are several bars/cafeterias on the same street. The cafeteria toward the end of the block if you walk right makes wonderful cafe con leche and hot chocolate. Although the hostal advertises that they have wifi, it is very patchy in the hostal. When we stayed on the floor below, we were able to get a serviceable signal if we sat in the common area outside the rooms, but the signal was too weak in the rooms. When we stayed on the same floor with the reception, we were at the end of the hall. There was no service at all so we had to sit in the reception area to get a signal. The receptionist was very kind and accommodating regarding this, but it was far from ideal as the area is small and we clearly felt we were in the way.
We were very happy with our stay at Hostal Isidro and we would recommend this hostal for anyone who is looking for an economical, central location.
