When I had booked this hotel, I'd been allured by its location and price. The price is very good. So, I was ready to live in small room without windows:) But in fact, I was pleasantly surprised. The room was pretty big, there was a lot of empty space, the bed was well enough (it had one minus - I'd booked one double-bed, instead, we were offered two single-beds, but they were eventually put together by the maid, as it is not allowed in this hotel to move furniture). There was a conditioner, but we stayed there in December, it was useless for us. The bathroom had actual bathtub instead of shower. Everything was rather clean, and the clean service was there everyday. It was one disappointment for us in the room - it was not allowed to eat there, so we hid our jamon in the purse:))
The staff was very nice. During the days there was the nice woman who spoke Spanish and uderstood Italian, during the evenings and nights there was man who spoke also English and Russian.
Location is absolutely excellent! It is 4 minutes walk from the main square Puerta del Sol. And you can reach all the main attractions very fast from there - Prado is 10 minutes to the right, Palacio Real is 15 minutes to the left. Metro station, fast metro station are also there, like a numerous shops, restaurants etc.
We really enjoyed our staying in Hotel Santander.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Santander for two nights at the beginning of a trip during which we mostly visited Morocco. We wanted a reasonably priced room that also gave us proximity to the three major Madrid museums. The Santander was all of that, and it provided a reasonably large room that was nicely furnished and had comfortable beds. The hotel has a small elevator, so it's not necessary to walk stairs.

However, being central, we also got our share of street noises even though our room faced on a small street rather than on the main. My wife, who is a light sleeper, definitely needed her ear plugs.

I m just back from a 12 day trip to spain & during our visit to madrid we stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. First, the USP of this hotel is its very convinient location, very central, near to SOL metro stop.the entire locality is very alive & happening, sol & plaza mayor are nearby.so great evenings are guaranteed.the rooms are clean & size is pretty good,clealiness is appreciable. the only drawback some people may find is the noisy street, which almost never sleeps.but then you r in spain to enjoy nightlife...the reception is friendly,though english is a problem,but thats true for whole of spain.there are lots of places to eat around, so that makes up for not having a restaurent in the hotel.plaza santa ana is also nearby.overall, a good place to stay.

For some reason, before I came, I was under the impression that the hotel had wi-fi. Did I read it somewhere? I can't remember. At any rate, it doesn't. Other than that, it was satisfactory for the price. It was clean, old-fashioned in a fairly attractive way, quiet and air conditioned. Don't expect a great deal of English from the staff, but one gets by. The bathroom was clean and functional, the beds standard comfort. However, I wish I had had more pillows, or larger ones. My only other complaint is that absolutely no guests were allowed up to the room, or at least that's what the sign said. I didn't try to break that rule, but it impacted on my social life, as I am not married or with family. Enough said? If you're looking for a reasonably priced, clean, functional, and rather stately stay, I wouldn't tell you not to go here. Oh, and it's also wonderfully situated. I overlooked a small, quiet side street, but I was a hop, skip and jump away from anything central.
