“Comfortable hotel, with good access to metro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

The hotel has a metro right by the front door which gives excellent access to the airport and the city centre. The hotel was clean and comfortable, but not quite 5* luxury. Furnishings are tired and dated but staff were excellent. We were able to book into our room at 11.00 am on our arrival from the airport - this was an added bonus. We were given a room overlooking the garden so the room was very quiet despite the hotel being on a busy road junction. The spa was a haven of tranquillity and very under used whilst we were there. Overall an excellent stay for a city break.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the garden are very quiet.

“Miguel Angel, The real story.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We arrived late friday night, and we left midday monday. During our stay we were treated like royalty, the staff were professional and a special thanks must go to the receptionists and the wonderful gentleman who controlled the breakfasts. We had two nights of Room Service and dined in luxury, which we paid for at time of purchase.
However, the hotel, as good as it is, is situated in an area that does not have many restaurants.
Therefore, be prepared to either travel by taxi, underground or sit in your room au natural and consume wonderful food supplied by Room Service. Remember, especially if you don't travel much. THE PHONE RINGING TONE IS NOT THE SAME AS UK!

“Great Hotel for a weekend away!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

The Hotel is located in the business district of Madrid, with a Madrid metro entrance on it's doorstep. The building is quite grandiose, with lots of marble in the entrance hall, elevators and a chandelier that goes all the way up to the 7th floor. The room we stayed in, 420, overlloked the internal garden and all you would need is at your disposal. The SPA with a decent size swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna is certainly a selling point for this property. The breakfast is excellent and the service received was second to none. The current late 70's early 80's decor is in need of a refurbishement, but none-the-less, this makes the Hotel a unique place to stay whilst in Madrid.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the garden, if staying in winter times.

“clean and central but beware of extras”

We had a two night city break. A well positioned hotel right by a metro station. Very clean but the rooms are very dated. On the first morning i tried to contact room service to order coffee but the phone was faulty so i (somewhat hungover) went to the breakfast room and got two glasses of water and two coffees to take to the room before we went for a swim. I was not pleased since i had had to get dressed and go and collect the drinks. The pool and spa is very nice but doesn't open untill ten on a weekend, and dont forget your swimming hat or youll be made to buy one! After our swim we went for breakfast (available till noon FAB) which was excellent then off to explore the city. All was well untill checkout when we were presented with a bill for an extra breakfast ( the coffes and water which i went to get) i was a bit suprised and challenged the amount but the manager was very self important and in my opion rude and we had to pay. As we were checking out there were two other guests doing the same they were also questioning their added extras and seemed very displeadsed so be warned.

“Room decor is very dated but everything else has been excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

My wife and I are staying here on business. We started off at the Melia Princesa but this so called 5 star hotel was so bad we left and spent one night at the nearby Intercontinental in a Club room before coming here. Our room is on the club floor with access to the business lounge. The decor is 1980s and the room does need a lick of paint but it is around 600 sqare feet with a large lounge and 2 huge picture windows overlooking the garden. The room is very quiet and although the Intercontinental was a lot more luxurious and a similar size it was more noisy and had a lot less storage space. The staff here have been excellent and cannot do enough to help. The room is very clean and there are so many nice touches like turning down of the beds, chocolates on the pillow, cotton towels laid on the floor next to the bed, lots of free toileteries. The business centre is well equiped and we were able to bring guests in for a meeting without charge. A basic breakfast and food and soft drinks in the business centre are free throughout the day and there is a chef in the evening if you want to entertain but this would have to be paid for. Our business travel agent negotiated a rate of Euro 155 per night for all this which is a lot less than the Intercontinental and is in fact marginally less than the Melia Princesa which for us was a disaster. Obviously I do not know what the non club rooms are like but if you can get a club room and can live with some old decor I do not think you will be disappointed. Also my wife has been very happy with the pool and attached facilities though I have not tried them.

Room Tip: 6th floor rooms all look large based upon the fire escape diagram on our door.
