“Spotless and ideal location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2010

Booked this hostal based on the location as visiting friends in Madrid and wanted to be close to metro and nightlife, couldn't have picked a better location. I'm baffled by the reviews stating the owner was rude, we found them friendly and welcoming and although they didn't speak English we managed to communicate with them in my little Spanish and a lot of hand signals.
The sheets and towels were changed each day and room and bathroom kept spotless. There was a safety deposit box in the room and main doors locked at night so felt secure and safe.
The walls are thin as we could hear next door room getting up and having a shower and the owners cleaning in the morning in the corridor.
The hostal is in a residential building so we could hear the child upstairs running about but living in a flat in the UK this didn't bother us.
All in all Dulcinea is a good location, spotlessly clean, friendly and helpful staff and at £20 per night excellant value.

“Rude manager”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2010

The rooms were small but clean. The guy who was in charge was very rude and nosy. He was always watching us as we came and went out. He "yelled" at my adult children when they spoke in the halls. The location is good but with all options in the area would not stay again or recommend it to others.

“Noisy at night, rude and nosy guy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 March 2010

The place is has an excellent location.
The rooms are tiny and clean but the guy who was at the desk was nosy and rude.
The first nights went well but our last night there someone decided to rearrange furniture - the floor above. We could not sleep, it was bad.

“Completely average hostal. Slightly overpriced.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 March 2010

It was utterly average. Good sized room, bed, bathroom, lock box. You can leave your bags for a while on checkout day. Very good location once you get your bearings. (We had some trouble finding it.) Quick walk to Prado, Retiro, Plazas to the west, and metro stations. It is very far from the airport, but for 2 euros I can't complain. One of the 2 owners/managers was friendly and the other...wasn't. The walls are a bit thin but any noise was only noticeable during the day. There is no breakfast or internet, but both are available in nearby shops.

Overall it is a great place to start out in. Good for getting familiar with the attractions and getting over your jet lag.

“Not bad for a quick landing spot”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2009

Hostal Dulcinea was a good choice for a first night in Madrid. It took about 45 minutes to get to via the Metro from the airport and, despite 2 train changes and a brief walk from the Anton Martin metro stop, it was easy to find. The room was small (as are most in this class in Europe) but clean as was the bathroom. The walls are a little thin but nothing worth complaining about. It had an A/C and a small TV. The staff spoke just enough English to be effective. No frills but certainly no complaints.
