“Good choice, good value for the money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2010

I stayed at this hotel with my spouse for 9 days while he was visiting Madrid. We had a small problem at the beginning (they gave us a two bed room instead of a room with a double bed), but they fixed it fairly quickly. We had no other problems during the next 9 days. Considering it was the cheapest 3 star hotel I could find in the city, I would call it a great deal.

The rooms have sizeable kitchennetes - stove, sink, microwave, etc. You need to ask for a key at the reception to unlock the cupboard with all the kitchen supplies - plates, 2 pots, pan, glasses, etc. If you will stay for long, this is an excellent way to save money. There's a supermarket nearby too. Just keep in mind that you need to do your own dishes and buy sponge/detergent.

Diego de Leon is on the fringes of the posh neighborhood of Madrid, Barrio Salamanca. It's not the most central of places, but you're definitely in the city and the Diego de Leon metro station has 3 lines. So you're very well connected. There are many restaurants around with great daily menus. I highly recommend Makkila for dinner, on Calle Diego de Leon. A little pricey, but great food. The area is VERY safe - I read some reviews on Trip Advisor about how it was sketchy 5 years ago, but it's simply not the case anymore. In fact, I felt that it was much safer than, say, Puerta del Sol.

Two things to keep in mind: Housekeeping is very loud. Once they start cleaning the rooms on your floor, you won't be able to sleep very well if you're a light sleeper (they start around 9-9:30). The other thing is the internet. You need to ask for the code every day and it's quite slow as far as wireless goes.

Overall, a very smooth and pleasant experience.

“Value for money”

Fairly large room, friendly english speaking staff. Free wifi in the room, fast enough for surfing, a bit too slow for video streaming. Very close to the supermarket and the subway station, but for line 4 take the entrance a bit further down the road (past the supermarket) to avoid a long undergroud walking detour. There are some minor drawbacks. The rooms are a bit dark, cooking utensils are just adequate and street noise at night can keep you awake, despite the double glazing - I used ear plugs. The TV has only Spanish channels. But all in all I will definitely consider returning here the next tiime I'm in Madrid.

“Average standard hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2010

We stayed in the hotel for 5 nights in February 2010. I found the location of the hotel very convenient as it was within 1-2 minute walk to the underground station. However, some exists of the station (including the best one for the hotel) are closed before 10 pm. It takes around 15 mins by underground to get to the centre of Madrid.
Hotel itself seems to be renovated, but only reception area. The rooms could do with some minor improvements (cupboard door hanging off the hinges). The room was big enough for 2 people, exactly as the picture on the hotel website showed. If you want to use hotel kitchen utensils, you have to ask for a key, from the cupboard in which they are locked, from the reception. They want a deposit of 20 EUR (refundable on departure, of course) or a credit card guarantee. There are enough crockery and cutlery for 4 people in a double room, some pans and a coffee maker. We would appreciate a kettle as we are tea lovers and not coffee drinkers and it took ages to boil water in a pan. If you want to do proper cooking, bring washing-up liquid and a sponge as they are not provided and there is a clear warning sign that cleaning dishes and cooker is not a part of maid’s duties.
Hotel is reasonably clean, however, not the cleanest I have ever visited. The bathroom was cleaned daily so were the toiletries replaced. The room seemed to be cleaned every other day, not to a very good standard. When I took a jumper from the drawer it had fluffy ball of dust on it and I found quite a lot of dust under the bed when I was looking for a camera memory card which had fallen there.
The biggest problem of this hotel, from my point of view, is the level of noise. We were woken-up at night by noise from the street and could hear the neighbours talking quite clearly, even though they were not arguing or shouting. I feel sorry for people staying in rooms next to the lift.
The check-in and check-out process was fast and problem-free. The female receptionist could speak quite good English. Although when I had a bit more complex request, it was difficult to talk to her – but she tried hard and did her best (and solved the problem). I must say she was very helpful and provided us with information about the local area and shopping facilities. I don’t know about other receptionists as the male one even never said hello or hola when we entered the hotel.
Overall, Aphotel Quo Eraso is a good standard hotel, perfect for people who liked to prepare their own meals and who don’t mind travelling by underground to the city.

“Great budget option”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2009

I spent four nights at this hotel with my boyfriend at the beginning of June this year and we had no complaints about our stay whatsoever. We booked through Expedia and payed around £220 in all which I felt was very reasonable, especially compared to city centre rates, though I do not think I would have payed much more than that. After reading some of the other reviews I had had some reservations about the hotel, but upon arrival was pleasantly surprised. Either the staff we met were new to the hotel, or their attitudes had vastly improved as everyone we spoke to was very pleasant and helpful, and most spoke some English. The room itself was furnished in what I would consider to be a very typically Spanish fashion, and although the decor was rather old fashioned for my taste, everything was clean and well maintained. I think that the photos here and on Expedia are a pretty good representation. The area around the hotel was again what I would consider to be typically Spanish, in a very normal residential area, people in Madrid tend to be night owls and so there were a lot of people about late into the night. Our room didn't get much light, as the hotel is in the centre of the city and so your veiw tends to be of the next apartment block. The thing to bear in mind is the heat of Madrid, It was 42C the day we arrived, the room was well air conditioned, but you don't really want the sun heating up your room anyway. We stayed in a room overlooking Calle de Eraso and had no problems with noise, though rooms around the corner may have been different. Contradictory to what some previous reviews have stated the area was quite safe and we had no problems walking home in the early hours, as previously stated the hotel is in a residential area, if you really want to get mugged head over to Sol and the other more touristy areas. Also watch your bag on the metro, but that goes for any city. There were numerous cafes, bars and restaurants in close proximity, and the Diego de Leon metro station was just a minutes walk away making it very handy for travelling into the centre, which only took about ten minutes. All in all, I think the Quo Eraso was very good value for money, and we would definately stay there in the future.

“Nice hotel”

Spent 7 days at the Quo Eraso. Nice hotel, nice location. Note that if you are hoping to find food options in the evening, they are limited until after 8:00. It was a quick hop on the metro to get to locations, nice neighborhood, and a grocery store around the corner. Would recommend it again
