I stayed at the Hotel Ingles for one night in July 2010 with a friend. We booked our room ahead of time online and paid 75 Euros for a standard twin room. The hotel itself is not terribly memorable, but it was clean and quiet with an unbeatable location and price. Calle Echegaray is a quiet, cobble-stone lined street less than a two-minute walk from Puerta del Sol. What was so amazing about this hotel was that we were right in the city center, but could still enjoy peace and quiet within the hotel. As proof of this: the night we stayed at Hotel Ingles happened to be the night that Madrid was celebrating their 2010 World Cup win. The entire city was in a frenzy, with tons of cars, people, and constant blaring horns. We did not hear a peep of these from our hotel room when we went to sleep! Granted, we had an interior-facing room, but it was still impressive. Our room was spacious, with a large bathroom and an entrance foyer, and had all modern amenities including a flat-screen TV and a hair-dryer. Note: the bathroom toiletry items were minimal, so you may want to bring your own shampoo and conditioner. There was a bare bones feel to the decor throughout the hotel, and it was quite deserted -- I don't think we saw a single other guest our entire stay -- but altogether very comfortable. The front-desk service was brisk and efficient, though not exceedingly friendly (fine by us). My only complaint is that the air conditioning in our room was very weak, and the hot room made it difficult to get a good night's sleep. But, all in all, we were very happy with Hotel Ingles: it was an excellent price and location, with efficient service. I would definitely recommend the hotel to you, as long as you are not looking for anything ultra-luxurious.
