“Perfect location, but a bit "bare bones"”

I stayed at the Hotel Ingles for one night in July 2010 with a friend. We booked our room ahead of time online and paid 75 Euros for a standard twin room. The hotel itself is not terribly memorable, but it was clean and quiet with an unbeatable location and price. Calle Echegaray is a quiet, cobble-stone lined street less than a two-minute walk from Puerta del Sol. What was so amazing about this hotel was that we were right in the city center, but could still enjoy peace and quiet within the hotel. As proof of this: the night we stayed at Hotel Ingles happened to be the night that Madrid was celebrating their 2010 World Cup win. The entire city was in a frenzy, with tons of cars, people, and constant blaring horns. We did not hear a peep of these from our hotel room when we went to sleep! Granted, we had an interior-facing room, but it was still impressive. Our room was spacious, with a large bathroom and an entrance foyer, and had all modern amenities including a flat-screen TV and a hair-dryer. Note: the bathroom toiletry items were minimal, so you may want to bring your own shampoo and conditioner. There was a bare bones feel to the decor throughout the hotel, and it was quite deserted -- I don't think we saw a single other guest our entire stay -- but altogether very comfortable. The front-desk service was brisk and efficient, though not exceedingly friendly (fine by us). My only complaint is that the air conditioning in our room was very weak, and the hot room made it difficult to get a good night's sleep. But, all in all, we were very happy with Hotel Ingles: it was an excellent price and location, with efficient service. I would definitely recommend the hotel to you, as long as you are not looking for anything ultra-luxurious.

“A slightly jewel from the past”

The hotel must have been a real gem when it opened those many decades ago. I stayed here three nights and was very comfortable the entire stay. A fantastic location with nightlife all around. It was less than 2 minutes walk to the Regus office facilities I used for busines. I probably wouldn't stay here in the summer as my room had no air-conditiong but I would stay at the Hotel Ingles again the other 7 or 8 months a year quite readily.

“Very unpleasent staff on great location”

This hotel is in really good location and it is placed in the real center of Madrid. You can walk to almoast every sight and it is hotel's advantage.
Rooms need redecoration, specially bathrooms. Staff is very unpleasent, and not only one of them; 3 different guys on the reception were not helpful at all. Hey guys, you live from your guests, aren't you?!
Probably wouldn't go there again.

“Get What You Pay For”

My brother and I are both in our mid 20's and stayed at Hotel Ingles for four nights in the beginning of August. The location is very convenient and close to a lot of the hot spots in Madrid. The hotel staff is very friendly and speak good English (if that's a concern for you). However, the beds are very creaky and the A/C in our room was pretty much non-existent which is a big concern in August. You cannot change the thermostat from 22C, but the room was never that cool. The air ran (while we were in the room because you have to insert your key to turn on the electricity meaning it never runs while you're gone), but it was not effective. I sweated profusely in my bed every night I was there. It is a relatively inexpensive hotel, but there are definitely no luxuries to be had.

“Well worth a stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2009

Stayed here in March for 3 nights and for the money and location It couldn't be better. The room was huge and overlooked the street but this wasn't a problem but it could be noise wise in the height of the season. The hotel was very clean and the staff although giving the impression of being surly weren't and were helpful when asked. Sound did tend to echo a bit from the landings as the floors & walls were marble so sound resonated a bit. As I said location wise it is literally walking distance from the main squares and attractions and just outside has to be one of the best bars I've visited - La Venencia - a sherry bar - great
