I chose this hotel based on the good TripAdvisor rating, and can confirm it's a really great hotel. The location is a definite plus point - just off one of the main shopping streets, and there's lots of cafes and restaurants nearby. It's walking distance to all the major sights, eg. the Palacio Real is 10 minutes away, the Prado 20-25 minutes. The metro from the airport takes about 45 minutes, change lines twice at Nuevos Ministerios and Alonso Martinez.
It's difficult to criticise the rooms - modern, solid furniture, bright decor, spotlessly clean. A very comfortable bed with plenty of pillows. Heating system worked well. Decent sized bathroom with shower that worked perfectly. Free minibar (soft drinks only, though!) and free wifi. Perhaps the addition of a comfy armchair would make it absolutely perfect?
I thought the breakfast was very good, probably the best I've had outside the UK (nothing can beat a freshly cooked full English breakfast). A huge choice of meat, bread, pastries, cakes etc, plus cereal, eggs, bacon, coffee/tea/fruit juice. All very good quality, and newspapers in several languages including The (London) Times.
All the staff I met were professional and helpful. There's a restaurant for dinner, but it's a bit more expensive than other places nearby. Note that if you book through the hotel website the quoted price does not include VAT (and to be fair it does state this).
