“Decent hotel in good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2010

The hotel was located very close to the Atocha train station and the metro. It was also within walking distance of The Prado Museum. My biggest complaint were the hard-as-a-rock beds, but that seems to be what you find in Spanish hotels (although these were the worst we found. Another problem was that there was a lot of noise outside as soon as the sun came up, so you wouldn't want to open up your window. The hotel restaurant had a nice buffet breakfast, but the dinners were not very good and were overpriced. It was a very basic hotel, but served our purpose - we barely spent any time in our room anyway. Good value for the price.

“Decent hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2010

We arrived at the airport with intentions of taking the aeroport bus. The woman started to write up our reservation for 4 people for 23 E and then spotted 5 pieces of luggage. She said we'd need a bus by ourselves and said it would cost 39 E. We had a hard time getting her to understand it was one piece of luggage each, and a carry on. We didn't want the metro, because we wanted to start our day off right and not worry about getting lost, shlepping luggage, etc. We took a taxi for 33 E, including the airport fee. Returning the airport at 5;30 am, we had the hotel arrange a cab. it was a Sun, and they charge an extra supplement for Sun. It cost us over 40 E.

The hotel was nicely located right next to the metro, which was the reason for choosing that hotel. We never used the metro though, and walked everywhere. Nothing was more than 20 - 30 from the hotel and we felt good walking. We didn't miss being away from the action, and the metro was right there, if we wanted to get anywhere quickly

The beds were very hard, but surprising comfortable. Water pressure in the shower was excellent. There are 4 supermarkets within a few block radius, and we tried them all.

We ate a Chess Cafe, and while it wasn't very ethnic, it was very good. A large glass of wine was only 1.90 E. Mojitos were about 9E.

The front desk was helpful. Their English wasn't spectacular, but my Spanish is worse. We had no problem getting our needs met. I thought my adaptor wasn't working and requested one from the desk, as someone else here mentioned, but they no longer had an adaptor to fit US electronics.

Breakfast was decent, with the exception of the scrambled eggs. They were horrible.

Twice, someone attempted to rob us. One time they were thwarted by a man who was screaming and scared them away. My sister didn't even notice they had the zipper open to her pocketbook. The next day, around the same place, someone attempted to undo the straps on my daughters pocketbook, without luck. We had our money, etc, in money belts under our clothes anyway, but they didn't know that. (We were very close to the Renfe train station, and the sidewalks were very crowded).

We took the high speed train to Toledo. It was a wonderful day trip. I recommend you purchase your tix the day before you want to travel. We assumed we could arrive and get our tix, but they were sold out for the day. We really enjoyed walking around and wished we had more time there.

Many of the museums are free on various days and times. I carried around with me a page from Arthur Frommers guide, telling me what time each museum was free. Between 4 of us, this saved us quite a bit of money

If you go to the Palace, don't miss the Cathedral next to it. It was beautiful.

We live in NY and were very disappointed in the exhibit on Manhattan at the ? Sophe Renfe? museum. It depicted the worst of Manhattan.

“good 3 star central Madrid hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2010

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in July. It's a reasonably priced 3 star in center of Madrid. Our room was cramped (it had a 3rd bed in the double room). Bathroom was large. Interior is dated and TV is tiny but we didn't come to Madrid to stay in the room and watch TV. Breakfast was very good.

Hotel is located at Piramides metro and Renfe stations which makes it convenient for Madrid airport connection,. When we arrived we took AeroCity shuttle (30 min, 23 euro) to hotel on the way back we took public transit (Renfe train to Nuevos Ministerios and then metro to airport). 1 hr and 3.30 euro pp.

Major Madrid attractions (Plaza Major, Palacio Real, Puerto Del Sol, Prado, Reina Sofia, Atocha, Gran Via) are about 30-40 min walk. La Latina neighborhood (lots of bars and restaurants) was 15 min. Metro is at the door and tourist pass (abono touristico is 5.20 per day or 11.60 for - 3days). Unfortunately there is no cashier at Piramides so it's better to buy the pass at the airport.

Overall we liked our stay at this hotel.

“Chosen randomly of desperation in a nearly sold out city, but pretty good.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2010

It's RIGHT by the Piramides metro, like literallly right on top of it. Unfortunately we got out at some other exit and confused some locals by asking for it & then wondering why they walked us a block and then pointed at a metro stop.

We were only in Madrid for an overnight stay before taking the highspeed train to Barcelona, but unfortunately there was some MAJOR soccer/football tornament going on that we didn't know about when booking our trip. There were almost no hotel rooms left in Madrid on that night. We had to pay something like 140 Euros. (It was definitely NOT worth that price, but we were going to end up paying much more elsewhere).

It was a nice place. Actual NON-smoking room (which my last 2 trips to Spain years ago had led me to not believe in). Large room. A/C. Good bathroom/shower. Amenities like toothbrush/shower cap. Nice thick curtains to keep out the light. We weren't bothered by sounds. Yes, the bed was hard as a rock, but so was every other bed we stayed at in Morocco & Spain.
