“Tremendous value and an absolutely terrific staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Tremendous value and an absolutely terrific staff. Located one stop from either of the Madrid Airport metro stops and then only two blocks from the Barajas train station this is great buy. I got a room for about 71.00 U.S dollars, including tax during January. There are plenty of restaurants nearby (try Al Traste Fun & Food) and a lot of friendly bars filled with folks that are staying at one of the many nearby hostels.

I will start with the two negatives so that I can finish with positives: The shower was difficult to enter because a shower assembly was constructed above the bathtub. Not all rooms are this was so if you have any problems raising above a three foot wall or are elderly make sure you get a room with an easily accessible shower. The internet was a little shaky so I went four blocks away to Al Traste Fun & Food; however, I have to be fair and say that I appeared to be the only person complaining about intermittent internet. Now on to the positive.

They have an airport shuttle and pick you up promptly or you can take the pink metro line one stop to Barajas station. The beds are firm and nice, the toiletries are decent enough but if you prefer using a bar of soap bring your own because they provide the ones that are about one inch by two inches. If you drop this "bar" once forgetabout it! The hardwood floors were new and beautiful, there is ample closet space and hangers, a closet safe, a television (dominated by German channels) and nice thick towels. The colors were modern and vibrant and the desk, although small, provided enough space to work.

The elevator is the smallest (two people and two suitcases maximum) I have ever seen but it did the job. The little bar area was nice and they lay out a really nice continental breakfast with numerous types of pastries and coffee. They also have a small internet center and provide two laps to use until 1: am.

The hotel is a thirty minute metro ride to Central Madrid which I liked because it was great to get away and retire for the night in a less populated area. Finally, the people that work behind the desk are nice genuine folks.

Room Tip: Easy access to the Metro and great local bars

“Very good, orderly and clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Stayed in the hotel as I had a long stopover in Madrid. It is located in Barajas, just a 10 minute walk to the metro station, which puts you in reach of central Madrid. The hotel has its own shuttle to and from the airport. When arriving, you must call them (beware, there is no public telephone in the shuttle waiting area of T4). When going back to the airport, there is a regular schedule.
Reception was speedy. Rooms are good for one person, with complimentary candies. Bathroom was almost the same size as the sleeping area. But everything was clean and recently furnished. Buffet breakfast is included and has good variety.
There is free wifi available 24 hours in the rooms, and also a public computer in the lobby which shuts down at 24:00 (!!). There is also cable TV with many channels, but there is a "trick" to get to them that I only discovered a few hours later.
In summary, the hotel is convenient if your travel plans give you a very short time to visit Madrid but you still need to be on time for those early flights.

“Perfect for transfer stays”

On our recent trip to Central America we stayed twice at the BW Villa de Barajas waiting for transfer flights the day after.

As we travelled with a 10 month old baby it was really convenient to just let the hotel know you were passing the gates at the airport and have thetransfer bus arrive within minutes.

Check-in and check-out was very smooth as has also been the case with all our communication (mail or phone) with the hotel.

The room we had (same on both occasions) was of good size and really felt fresh and clean. As a coffee freak not having a kettle was a smalllet down but that you could order from the hotel bar.

Breakfast didn't have a large spread when it came to variety, but the alternatives wereof good quality.

“a convenient stay near Madrid”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

The Best Western in the Madrid suburb of Barajas has been our stop 4 times coming and going from Spain. It is very convenient as the staff do free pickup to and from the airport, but it is also very easy to get to and from it by the metro that goes to the airport. It is a couple of blocks walk from the subway station, and we've used it for going into Madrid for the day as well. The price is reasonable, and while the rooms are typically small for the average 'economy' hotel in Europe, they are adequate and the facilities in them quite ok. The personnel are very helpful and friendly and the breakfast (included in the price we've gotten through Hotels.com) has been above par. We found a nearby neighborhood restaurant on a small square (wish I'd noticed the name of it!) that had superlative food at a good price. I believe the square had a church, as is typical for smaller towns and cities in general, but that is all I can remember to help folks with location, unfortunately. There isn't a lot around the hotel other than a few other restaurants here and there (didn't try the largest one just across the street and down about a block), but it is a very convenient stopover. I can't say I'd experienced any worries about the neighborhood and there wasn't a lot of noise when we've stayed there, which is about 5 nights overall. If you are looking for luxury, ambience or being in central Madrid, this isn't for you. But clean, convenient to the airport and reasonably priced (we'd stayed March, 2011 and July, 2009) it's fine. Dreary, small and without character? This is Europe, folks, don't expect the same for your money as American styles. Pay a lot more and stay somewhere else if you want that. One thing I'd learned while staying in Spain in 2011 is that many cities have 'aparthotels' which are 'apartment hotels' in which you can get very reasonably priced 'apartment' accommodations for the price of a room elsewhere. Don't expect that in Madrid!

“Not Okay - Even for one night”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

This hotel is small, noisy, and has no character. Our room looked like it had not been updated in decades. It was relatively clean but the furnishings were so old and dark & dreary, you didn't want to touch anything in the room. The hotel is located in a neighborhood which we were fearful to venture more than one block away from the hotel. Breakfast was good but the staff did not appear to bus the tables until they had all been used.
