“Loud AC”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2010

people found this review helpful

The room is decent in terms of size and cleaniness. However the AC was so loud that it could affect some people. Breakfast was OK with good breads and pastries. There is a nice supermarket about 3 minute walk from the hotel that has a good selection of snacks and drinks. There is also a hamburger place across the street which was busy when I tried to get in around 10 pm on a Sunday night.

“Ok - after all you don't spend much time in your hotel in Madrid”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2009

The location of the hotel is not really good. To go anywhere well known or nice you have to take the Metro or a cab. Cabs however are not expensive in Madrid. The rooms are spacious but tired and of a real need for renovation. The aircon is not really working. Staff is very friendly. Breakfast is ok. If you are looking for a more authentic and more special experience this is not the type of hotel you would stay. The area is not really good either. So this is more a business hotel than leisure.

“Noisy rooms unventilated rooms”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2008

I have stayed at this hotel 3 times - all three times I had little choice to use this hotel as it was part of a tour package. If I had a choice I definitely wouldn't stay at this hotel. The rooms are very noisy particularly those that face the road and are on the lower floors. I mean really noisy!!!! This was made worse by no air conditioning on 2 ocassions I stayed at the hotel - it was unbearingly hot and uncomfortable. Plus the staff were unhelpful, not wiiling to move us to a quieter room, where at least you could try to cool the room down by opening the windows. So if you want a good night's sleep, I suggest you try another hotel in Madrid !!!

“Excellent hotel in a great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2008

We are a young couple and recently we spent a lovely long weekend in Madrid at Rafaelhoteles Orense. The hotel is situated in a great location, 5 mins walk from Bernabeu Metro stop and 15 mins walk from Nuevos Ministerios, where there is Metro with 3 handy routes and Cercanias (short distance train). Here, in Nuevos Ministerios station, there is a direct Metro route to Barajas Airport (route 8 to all Terminals) so you can get to the airport from the hotel in less than 1 hour for just €2.

The hotel is really close to Avenida Brasil, an area where you can enjoy the spanish night life. I lived in Madrid for 4 years and this street is a bit noisy at weekends but we got a bedroom in the other side of the building and it's really quiet in case you are worried about noise. Also you can find a lot of Tapas bars and nice restaurants around.

The bedroom was really nice, big enough with a huge bed. The bathroom was completely new with all mod cons and really clean, altough the bath wasn't really big in case you are thinking to have a bath instead of a shower. It wasn't too noisy as it was in the other side of the building.
We didn't use internet but I assume that this should work fine, if not staff were really helpful an polite in any queries we had. After the check out they offered us to keep our luggage and also advised us to use the PC and printer in the entrance of the hotel. That was really handy as we could print our flight tickets with no problems and quickly before heading to the airport.

Housekeeping staff did a professional job also.

We paid €90 per night that is a really good price for the quality provided. Minibar items in the bedroom was quite pricy (i.e. 1.5l bottle of mineral water = €5.5, 0.5l = €3, crips small = €4 and so on).

Overall I would say this is a great hotel that I'd really recommend to young couples and people who like to enjoy a bit the night life in a good location.

“Terrible experience, with a laptop stolen”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2008
3
people found this review helpful

Just back from a terrible weekend in Madrid with my husband. We had booked a suite in the Rafaelhoteles Orense, which promised to be great from the pictures.
We had to change four times the room because of brown water coming out from the bath tub....and while waiting at reception for the fourth change they STOLE OUR LAPTOP AND THE BAG, which was simply at the reception in front of the elevator!
The personnel at reception was absolutely NOT helpful, did not want to call the police nor show the police (once they arrived) the security tapes. They pretended we were annoying them and ruined their Saturday night as we had to go to the police station until 23 to have a declaration of theft, etc. etc. They kept on saying they had not seen anything...but as from the next day there was a security guard at the entrance (which was not there the Saturday when we checked in!)
We have seen thousands of hotels around the world, this has been the worst experience ever, for the rooms and for the personnel, beside the theft.
