“Straightforward and comfortable stay, exhorbitant internet charges”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Staying for two nights here was fine. Comfortable room and bathroom. Excellent breakfast to set you up for the day.
My ony grumble - and it's a big one - concerns Internet access in the room at 7 Euros per hour (for the first hour...). A ridiculous charge and enough to put me off choosing Rafael Hotels again.
Starbucks directly across the road has free internet access - just buy a coffee (for less than 7 euros) and hook up to the wi-fi. Starbucks is open from 7.30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
In fact, Trip Advisor should allow travellers to see additional Internt charges when booking. This is a major parameter for business (and holiday) travellers when choosing a hotel and too often we get ripped off. When the charges are visible up front, travellers will start to avoid such traps.

“very nice stay”

Nice and clean in a busy modern center of Madrid. Rooms are surprisingly spacious. The staff was nice and helpful. The breakfast was fine.

“overrated overpriced mediocre hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Was staying there with my family and my colleagues. In the description of the hotel it is stated that there is an internet and garage provided, appears it is all there, but you should pay for everything, 18 eur per day for using their garage, the internet is total shame, the wifi available only in the lobby, 16 eur. for 24 hours, but you cant use that in your room, you will need to pay separate price 5 euro for 1 hour and if you decide to use it more you will be charged extra 17 euros for coming 24 hours, when a much more cheaper hotels providing a free wifi available in the rooms. The breakfast was OKish, but in the end my family and me and half of my colleagues had food poisoning and were sick with vomiting and diarrhea for two three days and the personnel were totally ignorant. I have noticed several times that the plates and the cups for the breakfast were not properly washed which I have mentioned to the waiters few times. The rooms were extremely noisy, could't sleep due to the traffic noise and the people partying on the streets. The air conditioning was strange, it was hot inside the room, it was impossible to find a way to regulate it, we tried to open the window but the noise was unbearable. My colleagues have also mentioned that their hear driers and a telephone were not functioning. Anyway, I find this hotel an overpriced and overrated mediocre quality hotel placed in some urban district from 70th very far from the city center

Dear guest:
We are extremely sad for not covering your guest expectations.
We obviously offer serveral hotel services, apart from the room, all of them with their own cost.
Regarding the noise you heard from your room, if you had told us about it, we could have changed you into another quieter room.
Concerning your family and colleagues health problems, we are expecting the Public Health Madrid Authority could determine the origin, because others congress atendants stayed in others hotels, not of our hotel chain, suffered the same disconfort.
We are really involved about food hygiene and we comply with the HACCP procedures.
Best regards.

“Fine, if you are attending an event at the Palacio de Congresos”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

I just spent a week there. I was attending an event at the Palacio de Congresos. It is really close, maybe 400 metres. This is great if you want to play hooky for a couple of hours and have a quick siesta.

My room was facing the road (Calle Pedro Teixeira), so it was a bit noisy at night sometimes. I couldn't figure out how to adjust the noisy heater/air conditioner, so i just turned it off. Fortunately, the weather was mild.

It was very annoying to spend 16 euro a day for internet. The buffet breakfast was adequate, but for 15+ euro, that's a joke. However, breakfast options in that part of town seem rather limited. There is a Starbucks across the street, so if coffee and a bun are enough for you, that may be a better way to go. It will still cost you 8-10 euro.

In the course of 6 nights, my room rate ranged from 87-169 euro/night, not including breakfast or internet. I think it averaged around 135. I didn't notice any "nicer" hotels anywhere nearby. Because of its proximity to the Palacio de Congresos and convenient Metro access (Bernabeu stop), I would stay there again if I were attending an event at the Palacio. There are probably much nicer places to stay in Madrid, though I can't really speak to what they might cost.

Room Tip: Ask for one that doesn't face the street.

“Pleasant stay in sunny Madrid!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

Recently returned from the Rafaelhoteles Orense, after a stay for a scientific conference at the nearby Palacio de Congresos which is just a few minutes walk away. Overall, I enjoyed the hotel - room (on the 10th floor) was very clean and spacious with a lovely king-sized double bed. Nice bathroom too, with everything needed for a comfortable experience. The hotel is in quite a main area, with convenient nearby cafes and a Starbucks over the road. The down side of this is that the area can be quite noisy at night - but less noticeable from high floor rooms. I don't smoke, but was in a room on a corridor/floor where smoking was permitted and I did notice the smell in the corridor at times which was a bit offputting so ask for a non-smoking room if his bothers you. Extras at the hotel (such as wi-fi and mini bar) were very expensive, so be aware of this. Breakfast was good, a wide variety of foods for all tastes - cereals, breads, fruit, meats, cheeses and cooked ham / eggs etc if required. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for a pleasant stay in a vibrant city.

Room Tip: Ask for a non-smoking room if you don't smoke. High floor rooms are quieter.
