“One of the best!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

I arrived with my partner on the Thursday night of the 9th of February 2012. It happens alot as people assume, but we were given a twin room (id booked a double with hotels.com) The man on the desk could not have been more helpful and apologetic and even up graded our room to a beautiful double overlooking the main grand Via. Bathroon was a bit small but managable and with room service, satalite tv, mini bar and free wii fi, it was very comfortable, You were always greeted by a friendly "Hola" leaving and entering the hotel at any time. Widows were virtually sound proof securing a sound sleep, I dont like heating from an aircon unit as its quite drying on the throat but I can appreciate this is more convienient than seperate heating and air con.The maid was discreet, thorough and seemed to work around the guests as opposed to hereself. With the metro outside the door everwhere in the city is easy to access and its just one tram change to the airport. I got the 5 day tourist pass covering trams and buses for 19 euros which is great value. Its ideally located for a short walk to the chuccea district. We loved our stay here, and hope to go back ( when warmer) :)

Room Tip: The rooms ending in 01 on each floor are closest to elevator.

“Location is overated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Most reviewers like this hotel because of its location. But Gran Via is no longer the commercial centre of Madrid, It is nice yo be able to walk to Puertas del Sol but the street is verynoisy and buildings look a bit decrepit. I usually choose to stay at hotels in the Salamanca district but this time the organizers of the conference booked this one because of the easier access to the university, The hotel is good, the room was very good with a balcony overlooking Gran Via and Plaza de España, Everything was clean and nicely decorated. They give free acces to internet with cable on your room or wireless on the lobby and first floor rooms. Breakfast is excellent and staff is very nice and seems happy to help you.My room was a bit noisy but you can ask for a quiet room overlooking the interior patio, if you have trouble sleeping with traffic noise. I slept perfectly because the windows had a very good blackout curtain,The worst thing about this hotel are the two flights of stairs you have to climb to have access to the lobby. It was built when there were porters to hold the door for you and bellboys to carry you luggage. Even with just a small trolley I had some difficulty climbing those stairs because I have a tendinitis. Young couples with babies had the same trouble with their own trolleys...

“Very good Place , but ....”

For a business type hotel , you have a great location hotel on Gran Via , but no room service and no wifi over the 2nd floor ( so I had to pay for the room internet ) . The room was good and had a balcony view of the Gran via road and on a chilly madrid night a lovely view. Although on a busy road , we heard no noise at all in the room .

Great breakfast spread and Fantastic location. But cmon , no room service .... really ??! Okay !

“No value for your money”

I traveled with my 17 yrs old daughter and a friend from childhood to Madrid after a recent relocation to Dublin, Ireland. Coming from Puerto Rico (Caribbean) we wanted to explore "La Madre Patria". We made reservations online through priceline for a three people bedroom and pay the extra price for that 3rd bed. We arrived at the hotel and they declined to give us the third bed unless we paid an extra fee of 38€ a night. We were staying for 7 nights.
So we stparted with the wrong foot there and it cause a lot of greive to my friend, she cried of frustration for hours as she was counting to spend that money shopping souvenirs and in attractions rather than paying twice for that bed!
The hotel claims to be a 4 star hotel, it is located in the main avenua Gran Via. its location is very convenient however there are much less expensive hotels even closer to main attractions. The hotel is outdated, and o ld, not in a historic sense but in a need some remodeling sense.
The lobby is pretty small, the room we were given after paying extra money for the 3rd bed had a decent size to accomodate the extra bed, but the bathroom was tiny.
Again, the price was super high, we ended up paying about 2,000€, they did not honored the price we paid when we did reservation, no free internet- not even at the lobby, no breakfast in luded, no gym, no nothing. It was more of a two star hotel, so don't spend your money in this hotel as yoiu will not get the value from it.
Not to mention that the hotel had a problem with electricty the morning we were leaving and it was so dark we couldn't even tell where our stuff was.

Room Tip: Don't choose anything out of the ordinary since they will not honor it to you. Go to anither h...

“Very good, could be better.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

This hotel has a great location off of Gran Via..the rooms are pretty nice and clean, and some staff are more helpful than others. The biggest disappointment is that there was no wifi above the first two floors, and the service that DID exist on those two floors cost an additional hourly fee. That was a bummer. The breakfast was nice though. I didn't hate my experience there but I'd be hesitant to stay there again.
