“Business trip to Madrid”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

The hotel was clean tidy and well appointed with all required elements simple to get on train as station. Beneath hotel access to town centre and sol very easy and reasonable prices too
Rooms dated felt like I'd gone back to the 70's but clean and serviceable
Free wifi all areas friendly staff good enough for a buis trip if I were going with family I may consider it too
Pleasant stay thank you

“This is not a 4 star hotel.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

This hotel has spent all its refurbishing money on the lobby. The hallway carpets are separated at all of the seams. That was the first warning sign as we walked to our room. The metal parts in the shower were rusted. The carpets were dirty and worn. The room, though very spacious, was old and worn. This was a scary place. We were afraid to touch anything or sit on the beds. We booked a room for 2 nights and left before the first night, even though they refused to refund us for the first night. We ended up in a real 4 star hotel paying less money per night. Though we ate the Husa first night charge we were much more relaxed and very comfortable in our clean, upgraded hotel at Plaza Castilla. The advantage to Husa Chamartin is supposed to be because it is situated on top of the metro/train station. However, the metro system is very efficient and one can stay in other hotels at Plaza Castilla with easily accessible metro and be across town in minutes.

“Convenient to Train, that's it”

I stayed here in October and the location is great for commuting into the city. It's a tourist hotel, period. The food is barely edible and the wifi is very weak and almost unusable.

“Truly awful, stay well clear”

The foyer is clean and functional, the lifts and corridors entirely functional, however, once you enter the room you find a continual stream of disappointments. A heavily worn and stained carpet, slightly grubby bathroom with a shower curtain of dubious hygiene, a bed that is too hard, pillows that are inadequate, heating that does not work (you need it in Madrid in November), a desk that is designed for people of pre school height, no electrical outlet and rather pathetic sound proofing. My colleague was woken at 06:30 by two men trying to get into her room - her room had been allocated to both her and to her unwanted morning time visitors. Both had been given keys that opened the door - a good job she also used the deadlock bolt and chain.
Breakfast was miserable - tinned fruit salad, bread and pastries that had clearly been baked from the rather poor frozen imitations of the real stuff, a poor selection of sub standard cereals.
An evening drink in the bar was a similar let down - poor wine and a miserable snack menu.

I could not find a single redeeming feature and was so relieved to check out and get away in the morning.

“OLD”

i know madrid quite well and took a chance on this one as i had to go to the british consulate in Torre Espacio which was close by,,,,to be honest, if you get it for 50 euros per night as we did for 4 nights then might be worth it, but its really old and is by no stretch if the imagination a 4 star. Its above the station, but to be honest its best to be located close to Atocha than Chamartin and there's nothing in this area worth seeing. the hotel was clean but really really old. Noisey at night time from young gangs hanging around in the waste ground around the train station...would recommend looking for a good 2 star in the Atocha / chueca / plaza santa ana / calle serrano areas, these are the best areas of Madrid...avoid this one unless really cheap! Just as well Madrid was brilliant as usual!
