I wrote a pretty bad review of Tryp Washington along with a few other people, but I notice that some of the reviews were saying just the opposite. It's like we're talking about 2 different hotels! Well I think we are. The Tryp Washingtom (3 star) is next door to a 4 star Tryp (Gran Via maybe?). I know this because when our room wasn't what we asked for we asked next door if we could upgrade, but they said they were full up.

Soo if you're looking at the reviews of this hotel make sure you're staying in the right one!

Very central location but only ok if you can not afford any better hotel.
The hotel is run down and not ok to any standard above one star. The staff is friendly and there are new flat creen TVs in the room but the whole buildind is not up to european hotel standards. When riding an elevator you fear for your live.

Basic hotel with everything you need. The rooms were clean and comfortable.
The location was fantastic, the Metro is right out the front, you could walk everywhere.
Only 30 minutes on the Metro to the Airport, only cost 1 Euro. For a hotel where you just wanted to sleep and spend the rest of your time sight seeing, this is the one!

The location of this hotel is perfect, full of restaurants, close to main touristic attractions and the underground. It is also a very safe area. I was traveling alone and safety is extremely important to me. I paid about 55 Euros per night (very cheap for a hotel in this area). My room was cleaned every day and the bathroom was very elegant. If you like shopping for a good price (in Serrano you will only find Boutiques) Gran Vía is perfect: El Corte Inglés, El Corte Inglés outlet (oportunidades), H & M, Zara, etc. Although you have a beautiful McDonalds right outside the hotel (very elegant compared with the ones in the US), try Rodilla. They have great food (much healthier) for a better price. Service was great, although the elevator and some furniture were dated. This is a great hotel for the price.
