“Hardest bed in the world!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

Not sure how this achieves more than 2 stars. A very mediocre hotel. We arrives around midnight and the hotel obviously caters for cancelled flights as we were stacked up behind 40 or so people checking in. Check in desk were disorganised (Scrum at the desk, no queueing) grumpy and not amazingly efficient, but got checked in after about a 40 min wait.

The room I got was on the top floor and was okay, bathroom was clean and nice, but no ironing board in the room. The bed was the most solid thing I have ever found. would have been softer on the floor! fairly pokey size, and the balcony door would not lock. In summary not exactly what I would consider a 4* establishment, much more 2* in my eyes.

“Don't eat here, super noisy, no ice machine. still could be worse...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

We decide it to stay a few days in Madrid after we stayed in Tenerife. We picked the TRYP cause it was close to the airport and it had shuttle service. Before I say anything else I should say that every one who wrote a review about TRYP is right, this is a dumping pool for canceled Iberia flights, and yes, it is noisy and NO, this isn't a four star hotel. The room itself is pretty clean, nicely furnished with a nice TV. The lobby looks nice and has a magazine and news stand with a few restaurants in it (do not eat there). The food at the Cafeteria is horrible (microwave type pizzas and tapas that have been at the bar too long), the other restaurant has an ala carte type menu that is incredibly over priced for what they are selling. The hotel itself is located around apartment complexes, but it is close to the Metro rail, so you can get to anywhere in the city you want.

WiFi is not free and its 20 Euros for 2 days worth (not 48 hours). So if you buy 2 days worth of internet at 10pm, you will only get 24hr plus 2 more hours. There isn't an ice machine (maybe its a European thing) so you cant bring any drinks for tomorrow unless you like them warm. The staff is friendly enough, I really didn't see a problem there. The bathroom was nice and clean, pluming had that problem where you get super hot water then cold water once in a while no mater how hot or how cold you had it. Shaving cream, soap, shampoo, razors, tooth brush and tooth paste was all provided and towels were clean and plentiful. Beds were comfy but the pillows felt kind of flat. The hotel is super noisy, you can hear everything from the people passing by with their luggage to the slamming of all the doors to the people in the other buildings.

Still it wasn't a super bad hotel, but they really should remove those 4 starts from their hotel sign.

Room Tip: Metro is a short walk away, don't bother with their pubs and restaurants...

“you'll get no sleep here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

Stayed for 2 nights on a business trip and slept for possibly 4 hours total. Who ever thought laminate bedroom floors and doors which bang shut were a good idea? Bedroom door and balcony door did not lock so I barricaded myself in (woman travelling alone). Staff very rude and unhelpful, food was stale. Room service is the local pizza takeaway but don't expect any help in ordering. I ended up with a pack of crisps and bar of chocolate from vending machine for dinner. Bathroom dirty too. I travel extensively on business but felt compelled to write this as I've never stayed anywhere quite so unpleasant.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else

“Handy for in-transit passengers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

Tryp Diana Hotel's main advantage is its close proximity to Madrid international airport. It is not a 4*, and certainly you must ask for a refurbished room, or it is only 2*! It is used by Iberia for missed/cancelled flights. The refurbished rooms are alright, but the corridors, restaurant and public areas are very shabby. The stairwell is used to hold bags of sheets, etc, so a fire hazard. There is a free shuttle bus to/from the airport, which is very helpful, but be sure to book it and check times at the hotel to get your flight on time. The hotel is located in a rather shabby residential area, so do not go out at night (was the hotel's own advice). Bar food is tolerable. The staff appear to have no English. One resident had problems as he could not print out his boarding card - essential in all hotels now.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room, and to see it in advance, if necessary.

“Very bad trip at this Tryp Hotel”

Stayed 1 night due to a missed/canceled plane with Iberia in Madrid. This place is really bad. Not 4* at all, maybe a 2+ not more. Noisy, old, bad situation (near motorway junction) and really packed (due to lots of people being in the same case of us).
Iberia consider its passenger as "sheep" and send them to this guesthouse. This is a bad joke as you pay a full price plane ticket and get a bad night here with a bad evening meal.
No A/C in room so very hot at night. Bad sleep.
Never stay here again.
