“good hotel, not in the center but has a very good price/value balance”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2011

In order to arrive to Abba hotel from Barajas Airport you take the 8 line of the Metro and change at Colombia station. From there take the metro 9 in direction Herrera Oria and exit at Plazza de Castilla. From there is very easy to find the hotel, just behind one of the 2 towers. The check-in was done easily. It helps if you know spanish, but with english is fine also. The room was big and the beds were very good. the bathroom contains lots of stuff, like toothbrush, soaps, lotions, etc. very nice. The only issue with my room is with the air conditioning that sometimes was not working perfectly. Be aware that sometimes the cleaning ladies can enter quite early in the morning in the room. But it happened only once. The check-out was done easily also, and the staff was very nice. The hotel is not in the center but you can reach in approx 20 min in the center by metro. It is convenient that you can go in any direction of the city, by having the metro and the bus in front of the hotel. From airport you need to take the ticket and a supplement, it costs around 2 euros and few cents. I would recommend this hotel but if you are the type of person that needs to be in the center of town and in the center of noise, this is not for you.

“Above average hotel with superb transport links”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2011

Although the hotel is a bit far from the main tourist sights you can easily reach them by the Metro just outside the hotel, a mere 30 seconds walk. This Metro station, Plaza de Castilla is a main transport hub in Madrid, so access to the city centre is 20 minutes or so, and to the airport is 15/20 minutes in a well maintained underground.
That´s was why we choose it: we just wanted a confortable place to spend the night before a long haul flight. And it did the job rather well: smooth and kind check in, spacious rooms with huge beds, clean bathrooms and a 20 minute metro ride to the airport.
But if you are mainly sightseeing you should consider a closer place to the city centre or a more interesting and typical neiughbourhood, where you could taste a better Madrid.

“Comfortable, friendly but not el cheapo”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2010

First ever visit to the Spanish capital. The Abba Casilla Plaza is located in the business sector not to far from the British Embassy. Its a clean, comfortable hotel but not the cheapest. I found the staff helpful and friendly. The rooms are very clean, comfortably and have all amenities you would expect , bath, shower, hair dryer, ironing press, bidet, safe, comfortable beds and I must say soundproof as well. Towels were replaced everyday and the room cleaned. There is a fridge in the room full of goodies[drinks, chocolate] but be warned they charge an arm and a leg for anything you drink or eat. The hotel restaurant is very expensive and personally do not think the meals are worth the cost. We ate in on the first night only, after that we ate out as you can get 2 meals out for the price of one in the hotel. Taxi's in Madrid are not cheap and sometimes we found they were taking advantage and travelling via longer routes than they should. Once you get your bearings use the fantastic metro system, there is a station across the road from the hotel [in the bus station] and for one euro you can travel miles. We would get on at Plaza Castilla and travel to the heart of the city [station Sol] you will come out in the hustle and bustle of the shopping area. Madrid has some wonderful architecture and various old buildings well worth visiting. On leaving we used the metro to travel back to the airport it cost us 2 euros each and comes out in the heart of the terminal. One final point be aware Madrid's weather is totally different from coastal Spain, its very hot in summer and but can be very cold in winter months. It was around 9 degrees when we were there whereas the Costas were showing between 18/20 degrees that 's the big difference.

“Good, clean hotel, close to metro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2010

This hotel was the first of 5 on a two week tour of europe. We were pleased overall with the room and service. Front desk not particularly helpful, but nice. There was a bit of a language barrier. The metro and bus station are steps away, so this is convenient if you want to travel using somehting other than taxi. Not a lot of food or other businesses around. Everything was usually closed by around 11 PM. So eat or buy items elsewhere if you are out past this time. Room was clean and good size. Nice kit in the bathroom if you forgot toothbrush, etc.
would stay here again. also, nice large window.

“Find another place to stay, the staff is rude!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2010

The room we checked into did not have a working air-conditioner. The staff at the desk told us to just wait it will come on. It never came on and the attitude of the staff got progressively worse. After the maintenance man repaired the air we left town for three days. On our return we were given a room quite like a closet with two beds. The same staff people told us that was the ONLY room available, even though they checked in several people after us. Our reservations had been made four weeks in advance. Their was no reason for us to have "the last" room in the hotel, except for the fact that we asked repeatedly that the air be fixed earlier in the week. Luckily we had cancellation rights til six PM. The next morning we checked out and moved across the street. There is a fabulous hotel across the street!
