Only booked a few weeks before the trip, unbelievably good value for money. I was there in late spring so summer prices had not kicked in yet.
4th floor twin room was huge, ammenities were fine, good hanging space, A/C, bathroom was more luxurious than I would have expected for the price. Hotel in general was clean and quiet at night although early mornings were noisy early due to the asian market at the back of the hotel unloading trucks, this was fine for me but is not ideal for families with babies. Staff were very helpful. No tv channels in English. Vending machines operated on a token system which was annoying.
I would definitely use this hotel when in Madrid next time, Straight onto Gran Via, right next to Plaza de Espana and the metro station, there is even a Starbucks across the road and numerous 24 hour newsagents selling the essentials. Unbeatable for this price!
Madrid is a great city and Gran Via is very safe to walk at night making the location perfect.
The only complaint I would have about the room is that we had the first room off the stairwell on the 4th floor, there was some noise from passing guests but was not a huge problem however we had a suspicious amount of people banging on our door at all times of day, some in the early hours of the morning. We initially suspected that people were coming home after drinking and going to the first room from the stairs on the incorrect floor, however this persisted for the whole week. Sometimes they would knock and sometimes they would persistently jig the handle or try a entry card in the slot. Whenever we would open the door they would mutter in spanish (usually women) that they had the wrong room. This happened once or twice a night for 7 nights. Slightly suspicous and annoying although in all other respects the hotel seemed completely safe. Would be interested to know if anybody else had the same problem. I do not mention this to deter anyone from the hotel, I will stay here again myself in the near future.
