I am a fan of NH hotels. They are always nice and you can rest assured you will get a nice room and a good meal. The problem is that NH has expanded so much in Madrid that they will turn anything into one of their properties. This is the case here.

The building is not new and that you can tell as soon as you go past the Lobby (which is fairly nice, as is the bar/restaurant area).
Facilities are old (we got stuck in the elevator in between floors however we got moving again soon!), rooms are darkish and they need refurbishment.

Location is OK. Maybe a bit too quiet meaning that there are not that many nice places to go for a bite or a drink.

Breakfast is very good though. That remains within the NH philosophy!

If all you need is a bed to sleep in that close to wherever you are going, then you might be fine here. If you need to stay for a couple of days and look for somewhere nice to stay, I'd suggest to look elsewhere.

I have now stayed at the NH Balboa twice when in Madrid. It is a good, convenient hotel for short business stays
PositiveS:
- close to the airport
- cheap (~80Euro/night)
- very good breakfast (though charged extra!)
- clean rooms
- conveniently located near the city centre
Cons:
- no room service late night!
- very small rooms
- free wifi only in hotel lobby
- the bar is well stocked with lots of books..but there isonly ONE single book in english. every other book is in Spanish

The reception staff where very friendly the hotel was clean the room was a bit basic but still of a good standard.
very limited english channels on the TV but well i was in spain.
Didnt think much of the breakfast but the salad i had in the eveing was very nice.

Would i stay again im not sure think i would try somewhere else if given the choice.
But still no real complants

Small rooms. Interior rooms a bit depressing. But clean and good location.
