My oldest son (15) and I went to Madrid for the last week of June 2011. I wanted to stay at a hotel a little closer to the city center, but becasue I had Marriott points and they just acquired this hotel we decided to stay here. The hotel is GORGEOUS and very non-Marriott hotel looking. It is an old masion that was also once an embassy, but is now a lovely small high end hotel. The staff was extrodinary (went over and above each day from arranging our dinner, taxis, room requests etc), our room was perfection and the upscale neighborhood that it was located in made us feel very safe to walk no matter what time of day or night.
The food is crazy expensive ($45 for breakfast for one), but we found a small cafe less then 5 minutes walk away and ate their every morning and ate lunch and dinner in various places in Madrid depending on what site seeing we were doing that day.
The walk into the downtown area every morning was easy (about 10-15 minutes) and we only returned to the hotel in the evenng to get ready to go out to dinner. There are 2 really good restaurants taht are a 5 minute walk where we ate twice. Each night we took a taxi back to the hotel because while it is only a 10-15 minute walk, we had walked all day and were tired.
I would definetly stay there again!!
