“Perfect hotel for our budget!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I just spent three nights at the Best Western Carlos V in Madrid. It is in an excellent location - just off of Puerta Del Sol - allowing us to walk practically everywhere we needed to go. We were three friends who wanted something comfortable and clean at a reasonable price and this hotel was perfect. The room was plenty big for all three of us, had a small balcony, and ran us about 85 pounds per person for all three nights. There is no concierge but the hotel staff was extremely friendly and the people at the front desk gave us directions to wherever we needed to go and restaurant suggestions when we asked as well as ordered us a cab for the airport. I would absolutely go back to this hotel if I return to Madrid!

very friendly and helpful staff although i think most visitors ask the same question over and over, from making our booking in SA to get proper directions from the airport by train to help with sending an email.

“I would chose this hotel for my next stay in Madrid again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Centrally located hotel, close to almost all the sights in the charming old part of Madrid and also close to a great shopping area. Clean, spacious rooms. Breakfast is OK. Excellent service. Free wireless internet.

Room Tip: If you prefer a quiet and spasious, ask for the numbers, ending with 03 or 18. If you prefer a room...

“Really 3 1/2 stars”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

We stayed here two nights with family. Here are the positives: Superb location -- walk one direction and you can get to the Plaza del Sol in 2 minutes, the Prado in about 15; walk the other direction and you're at Grand Via in 2 minutes. Very pretty breakfast room, lobby, and public restrooms and pleasant staff, who are also helpful with directions, etc. Free wifi. The negatives: We reserved a quad for 2 adults and 2 children and our room was somewhat disappointing. I am truly not picky (have traveled widely and stayed in several lesser places), but this room had no windows, except for one window that was "whited out" because it looked out onto icky stuff (you could only see this if you opened the window, the window was made opaque when shut). Gave us a somewhat claustrophoic feeling. The room itself was more typical of an old European "pensione" than a 3- or 4- star hotel, although the bathroom was well equipped, spacious and modern. Another negative: hotel is on a narrow street and, during our stay, that was a big mechanical show on the street, making it impossible for a taxi to get through. You can walk about 100 yards to a taxi stand, but this may be a negative for some travelers, esp. if you have a lot to carry.

Dear AJD_CA
Let me first of all thank you for sharing you rmcomments and for the exra half star you are so knd to give us! It´s great t know our positives are heavier than our negatives!
According these negatives, I am afraid ther is nothing we can do about the 'Cortylandia' show, it is quite traditional in Madrid and organized by El Corte Inglés (almost allmighty!). About your room, I would thank you if you could let me know its number, as I am not able to figure oout which one it was following your description. You can find our e-mail on our website.
Kindest regards

This was our third stay at this hotel in 5 years. As always, the hotel was reasonably-priced, well-located within walking distance of most Madrid attractions, and very clean.

Room Tip: The street outside can be loud, choose a higher floor if possible. From the 5th floor, even the New...
