“My favorite hotel for the last 10 years - great location (near Puerta del Sol and Prado) and consistently good service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

There are not very many hotels in the world where all you need to do when you check in is to pick up your key card, and off you go to your room. That is great service. Well, maybe it is because I have stayed in this hotel many many times the last decade. Still, one cannot ignore this service.

The rooms are not large but they are comfortable. Sometimes they place two beds when I need one king size bed, but generally these beds are comfortable and the pillows are plentiful.

The hotel is somewhere in between Prado and Puerta del Sol. If you are a jazz afficionado, it is also close to the Plaza de la Angel where Cafe Central is located (just off the square). There is nightly live jazz in Cafe Central and generally the acts are from top local artists.

Do not expect, however, a great breakfast. Sometimes the coffee can be bad. And sometimes the staff can be Kate in replacing th buffet items. But the dishes are well made and of sufficient variety.

Kubi wireless is available for Internet connection but it is not for free. It is also sometimes difficult to connect.

This hotel could be an excellent one, but it's not there yet. But it is my favorite hotel. It may not be the best hotel, but it sure makes me feel at home.

“Great hotel, perfect location”

This is a nice hotel, good value and in the best possible location but without the noise of the busiest areas. It is very close to the Prado and other museums and a short walk from everything else you would want to visit in Madrid. The hotel is clean and the staff are attentive. Ask for a room with a view.

“great location, great staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

stayed here between Christmass and New Year 2011-2012. The location was perfect and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. My luggage didn't make it to Madrid with me and as soon as I mentioned it during my checkin, the hotel staff took the information from me and began following up with the airline for me. This is just one example of how helpful they were in our only 3 day stay there. The only issue I had with the hotel was that it was very noisy.. not sure if there was construction going on but it sounded like that in the middle of the night every night. The walls and windows were also very thin and added to the noise level. I still highly recommend this hotel for the price, it was so worth it.

“Nice hotel - recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Stayed at the Villa Real during December, 2011, for several nights. Located in a central part of Madrid, good for quick walks to many major attractions including Prado Museum, Plaza del Sol. Medium size, (somewhat boutique); not in the size, scale, or glitz of the nearby Ritz or Westin Palace, but very nice in a charming and classy way. Great front desk, always helpful and willing to offer assistance as requested. All staff was always polite and friendly. We did not eat in the restaurant so can't comment on same, but note there are many nice restaurants within close walking distance.
Our room was a duplex, with a great terrace fronting Plaza de Cortez. Room quality was appropriate for a hotel of this class.

Room Tip: If choosing a duplex, note somewhat different layouts pending renovations. Some on rear side of bui...

“amazing location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

i stayed at the villa real for 2 nights on my way back to US after visiting relatives in Spain. The location is amazing, steps away from the three main museums in Madrid. Service was good and the room lovely, with two levels and a window overlooking plaza de las cortes, I could see the building of congress with christmas lights across the street. There was a rose on the living room and a handwritten note by the room manager. There were complimentary drinks at the hotel bar. On the downside, the heating was very noisy, connecting to wifi was hard (I was able only on the second day, after going down and getting a printout with the password from the front desk-they should provide it on arrival or have the information somewhere in the room), and watching the news on TV (the government channels, free to everybody in Spain) was 30 euros.
Overall, for $150 a night, unbeatable location, great place to crash when sightseeing in Madrid.
