“Reasonable location and price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 March 2011

We spent three nights here in March 2011 for a short break in Madrid. Although the Metro stations are 10-15 minutes walk away there is a bus stop almost outside the hotel door and just hop on there, number 55 or 60 will drop you right outside various metro stations - no need to walk anywhere. Just buy the tourist metro ticket for 3 days and you never have to pay for buses or metros even to the airport. Because of this we found the location quite convenient and travelled easily all over the city. The room was a bit small and dark and looked out onto a central well, but it was comfortable and clean and the bathroom was very well equipped. Staff were very helpful and we were able to leave our luggage all day before going to the airport. Breakfast was good with plenty to choose from. I would stay there again without any worries. Not luxurious but good value for the money.

“Good hotel at reasonable price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2010

We spent 3 days including new year's day.
The hotel is in a safe area. The closest Metro station is Delicias (5/10 mins walking), and the centre of the town (Sol) is only 4 metro stations away on the same line (yellow)
The hotel lobby is very nice, the rooms clean and the bathroom very big and with lots of amenities (shampoo, hairdrier etc.).
The breakfast buffet is good and well varied, too.
Don't use the hotel internet connection, very expensive, but go to the internet points along the street to the Metro station, which costs 0.6 eur/hour

“Well... think it twice before staying here...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2009

This is a very average hotel that left us very disappointed. Despite of its name and description, the building is not really close to Atocha, especially if you are dragging your bags. It is a 25 minutes walking from there and the closest metro station is Delicias, which is approx. 12 to 15 mins. walking.

We booked the hotel through Expedia and the offer said “wi-fi” as one of the special features of the package we bought. However, when we arrived to the hotel, the receptionist just said (in those rude Spanish manners) that we had to pay for the internet, even in the computer located in the lobby (5 EUR for 45 mins… in the locutorios 5 mins walking is 35 cents for 45 minutes). To make things worse, when we checked out we were asked to pay again ignoring the booking already made and paid through Expedia. The receptionist didn’t even know the existence of Expedia and refused to believe that you have to pay beforehand in a booking of this kind. This is particularly impressive for a hotel that seems to be part of a wide chain in Spain and other European countries.

When we arrived at 1 a.m. to the hotel, the front entrance was closed and the receptionist came, with the guests’ list printed to check our names before letting us in through a side door by the parking entrance. Very below average, isn’t it?

Re the room, it was good, clean and with many toiletries. However, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, I am sure you find better deals out there.

“Nice hotel - good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2009

I stayed here whilst on a weekend break in Madrid. We were looking for a reaonsably prices, decent hotel for the three days, and the Hotel Abba Atocha was better than I expected.

The hotel is in a nice area, and we felt very safe the entire time. The closest Metro station is Delicias (10 mins away), and Atocha station is about 20 mins walk away. It isn't quite in the centre of town, but is easily accessible and we didnt have a problem getting around at all.

The hotel lobby is very nice, and looks more like a 4 star hotel from the entrance. The staff were pleasant and helpful.

Our room was slightly disappointing as it was quite small, but the bathroom was huge - as big as the room in fact and made up for it.
We were on the 9th floor, and unfortunately we could hear the loud rumbling sound of the lift everytime it went up and down which wasnt very pleasant.

All in all I enjoyed staying there. The only thing I would criticise is the restaurant. There are two restaurants, one inside the hotel, and the other just at the side of the hotel, which is also owned by the hotel. We went to the one on the side of the hotel, and was disappointed to pay 15euros for each meal considering they had clearly been microwaved. Plus we were charged for two bread rolls we didnt ask for!
