This hotel was in a great location, the Salamanca district of Madrid, which is full of very high quality restaurants and shops. It is close to the metro and a 5 minute walk from Retiro Park which is a wonderful park with a lake and very pleasant to walk around. The central tourist area of Madrid, Sol, Plaza Major etc. is about a 20 minute walk away, or alternatively a few minutes on the metro. I thought I'd start with the positive! The negative aspects are that we were not greeted upon arrival in a friendly and welcoming manner. The hotel was on a much smaller scale than I had anticipated and did not have a hotel bar. When we asked for drinks one evening to have in the lobby or in our room, we were told the bar was shut. This was about midnight, not late for Spain and especially not what one would expect in the capital. I, personally, love a hotel with a hotel bar to have a nightcap so this was very disappointing, but I admit could be personal preference. The rooms were fairly spartan, not rooms to which you could go back and relax and chill out in after a hard days shopping! If you just want a hotel as a basic crash pad then this could be the one for you, if you like a little bit more pampering and luxury, then avoid.
