We stayed here for one night after an overnight flight from USA. It's an easy taxi ride from Barajas airport and a very short ride to Chamartin RENFE station which is why we chose this hotel as we were travelling home to Murcia by train the next day.
The hotel consists of a lobby on the ground floor and a number of floors higher up in a tower block at the northern end of Paseo de la Castellana.
Although we arrived early, we were able to check into a room and get some sleep!
The rooms have hard "wooden" floors and lots of high-tech gizmos including electric blind and fading lights. All controlled from a panel by the bed. However, we never did work out how to turn the bathroom lights out!
We did experience what could be described as design over functionality in a couple of instances: the basin was so designed as to redirect the water from the tap onto the mirror, and the shower-room leaked water into the rest of the bathroom when you opened the door.
But the room and bathroom were beautiful and furnished to a high standard. Bathroom necessities were packed in a gift bag tied up with ribbon. There was a kettle with tea and coffee supplies and a fridge into which we squeezed our own soft drinks. And there was a safe. Also provided were 2 dressing gowns and slippers.
Our reasonable Internet rate did not include breakfast. Buffet breakfast, we were told, would cost 25€ per person +IVA. No thanks! We wandered 3 or 4 minutes down the road to a bustling local cafeteria where we had coffee plus tostadas con tomates for around 5€.
Just beyond the couple of cafeterias, there is a bus terminus at Plaza de Castilla as well as a Metro station so, although this hotel is away from the city centre, it is easy enough to get to where it's at.
We have now got to the age where we prefer "grand hotel comfort" to "high tech boutique" so, on our next visit to Madrid we will probably look elsewhere for a hotel a little more central. However, for a capital city hotel in the luxury bracket, this hotel was amazingly affordable.
PS Our taxi driver told us that this is where FC Barcelona football team stay when visiting Madrid.
