“October in La Rioja”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

This hotel is a lovely venue right in the center of the city of Haro. It oozes character and charm and serves a fine breakfast in the large patio. The patio is a very nice place to sit for an evening drink. In October the weather can still be warm and apparently the air conditioning is not still on. I had a room facing the street and was able to open the window (inviting a mosquito in to share one of my evenings) but one gentleman in our wine-tasting group (We spent five days visiting bodegas/wineries in Ribera del Duero and La Rioja.) complained that his room overlooked the patio and when he opened the window, all the noise from meetings and entertainment there drifted up and into his room so that he found it difficult to sleep. This may be worst on weekends so a guest might prefer a room facing the street unless it's the time of year when the AC or heat are on and windows can be kept closed. My very comfortable room with a double bed was fine for one person but if there are two of you and you like to read in bed, you may want to request a room with a bedside lamp on each side of the bed, which mine did not have. The amenities did not include hand lotion, Kleenex, shower cap or a heated towel rack but there was a shoe shine sponge. Since I was with a group, it's quite possible though that my room was not one of the upper scale ones which might have more "goodies." I have been at this hotel three times now over the last several years and find it very satisfactory. There is a computer for guests to use for free; the central location is excellent; the service is very good and the breakfast appealing and ample.

Room Tip: When the AC and heat are not operating, avoid rooms facing the patio in case there is a lot of noise...

“A magnificent building, a well run hotel with friendly courteous staff.”

Our room was spacious with a well appointed bathroom, well furnished and with superbly comfortable beds with memory foam mattresses. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the dinner in the restaurant was of excellent quality and cooked to perfection. The location makes this hotel a very good base for touring tha Rioja Alta.

“Imposing public areas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

As other reviewers have said the public areas are really amazing and the central courtyard is very imposing. Our bedroom was fine, as was the food and the service we received. Travelling with a group of classic car "nuts" meant the secure underground car park was much appreciated and the staff were immensely helpful when one of our group had a slight problem. Well located in Haro and well worth a visit.

“A Fantastic Old Building”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

Los Agustinos has had a mixed history, having been everything from a monastery to a prison in its time. It is now an upmarket hotel with a venerable feel to it. We were invited here for a friend’s wedding - and what a location! Within easy reach are vineyards, bodegas, many historic buildings and pleasant countryside. Like the hotel itself, the rooms are rather olde-worlde, but the establishment is well equipped and breakfast, though not cheap, was excellent and even included champagne! There have been complaints that the staff are a bit curt, but this could be a language / cultural thing. We speak Spanish and everyone we had dealings with was polite and professional.

“Warm, friendly, and helpful”

We recently toured Spain with our relatives. We spent our first night in the Rioja district here. The hotel was nicely situated for the festivities that were to occur later in the evening. The rooms were charming and the dinner was excellent. We managed to leave our garment bag in the closet of the room as we rushed off to take a tour of one of the local bodegas. When we called back later in the day, the bag had been found and was ready and waiting for us on our return. Excellent service.
