We were slightly unsure about booking this hotel when nobody had reviewed it before on here. It turned out to be a very good budget choice, located about a 10minute walk from the old town. The area was fine and had the advantage of having some very reasonably priced bars and eateries in the vicinity. A special mention here for the nearby El Jardin bar and restaurant where we were treated to excellent tapas with every drink and Joseph the waiter was delightful to us, even though we are English, in fact, because we are English!
But more of the hotel. It was located on the upper floors of a commercial building. Reception was on the 4th floor. No-one spoke much English, but everything was fine anyway, We got the rooms we asked for and they were spacious and spotlessly clean. The bathrooms were well equipped with shower as well as bath. There was satellite TV and radio in all the rooms. The rooms at the front were slightly noisier than the ones at the back, but there was no air-con and the ones at the back got very warm during the day.
There were plenty of supermarkets nearby and a 24hr store across the road.
As a short break destination, Santiago was charming. It had everything you want; lovely cathedral and old town, affordable food and drink and no mass tourism. Plus it felt very safe and laid-back. Just go!
